Would you dare to do SEO for just one word from english dictionary? If yes, how?

I want to target just one word...craigslist....and I want to know how.

So many people's browsers are enabled with auto complete that even being optimized for "craigslist" wouldn't get you much. If they type it into their browser bar that's where they go.

If they type it into google - it will be the first thing they see.

Wouldn't be worth it to even try with the number of links you would need to show up anywhere.

    Dude,

    That will be so easy!

You only have to beat 47,800,000 other
webpages on google to get on the front
    page.

Why dont you try something harder like
    the letter "a".

    On another interesting note...

    Wikipedia is 4th
    A Youtube Video is 5th
    craigslisttricksandtips.com is 9th
    twitter.com/craigslist 14th (only 331 Followers)

If you cant get your site onto the first
page I would atleast start getting links
onto the sites that are already there

    Thats a good start

I would be doing some research on how
    craigslisttricksandtips.com is on the first
page by using a cool plugin called "SEO for Firefox"
and checking out where their backlinks are and
    doing the same.

The best SEO advice you can get is not rocket
science..all you have to do is find a site that is
already where you want to be, find out how they
are doing it and then beat them at their own game.

Obviously...some will be harder to beat..but atleast
you know what you are up for.

    Take Care,

Spin and "twist" Google craigslist related keyword news stories into your product(s) using creative newsworthy press/media releases and you'll be pleasantly surprised at all the top spots and traffic the Google gods give you...

What English dictionary do you have?

    Craigslist what?

The sex ads? Selling used computers? If you could nichify it down a little bit you might have a little better of a time but to just shoot for the term craigslist alone is like saying I want to beat out sex.com for the keyword phrase "sex." I don't think it will happen unless you have a few million to throw at that linking campaign.

Don't even bother wasting your time. Forget that you even thought about it. Craigslist itself takes up the entire first page of search results.

Anyone typing only "craigslist" into google is just using google as their internet browser. Instead of typing "craigslist.org" into their browser's address bar, they feel it's faster to simply type craigslist into google, click on the first result (the site's homepage), and load it up via that means. This is something people do. Look to page 2 and you'll see that craigslist.org takes up half of that page too.

    craigslist - Google Search

With that in mind, should you somehow find a way get to page 2, which would take months of dedicated work (if not longer) in and of itself, you're still not going to get much traffic.

Why not make better use of your efforts by coming up with some longer tail keyword phrases that may give you the same types of visitors you're looking for? You'll find much better success with this approach.
