Reinclusion Request Confusion

Hey All,

So our site was deindexed for "Pure Spam" and we figured this was more a vendetta against it from someone reporting it and then also the fact that the Google person who reviewed it didn't like affiliate sites. We have 100% unique content and hundreds of hours into the site with up to date material that is useful. So we submitted a reinclusion request that we felt it was the improper classification and laid out the positives of our site. So Google agreed with us and put it back in the index, but they sent us a cryptic message with the reconsideration message. I'll post it below, but it states that some things may still be outside the guidelines and to look at the manual actions and the security issues but nothing comes up for either of these sections on the www and non-www in GWMT. We had cleaned up bad links pointing to us while waiting on the reinclusion request. So I just wonder, is it possible that there is an algo penalty blocking something, or did cleaning up those links prevent any other messages from coming, or is this just a fishing exercise to see if we'll self report something? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated as we don't want to submit another reconsideration request if not needed, but we could show where we cleaned up links and disavow the ones we can't get removed, but I wanted to get feedback from everyone here. That message was from August 26th and we got all data back in GWMT now so that's why we think nothing else will be added, but again, any input/experience with this would be greatly apprecaited!

Dear Webmaster of XXX,
We've reviewed the reconsideration request for XXX and modified its status, but we still believe that content on your site or links to your site are outside our quality guidelines.
To be eligible for another reconsideration, you need to address the remaining issues for your site.
Here's how:
Go to the Manual Actions page to see all actions taken on your site.
Review each item and fix it to meet our quality guidelines.
Check the Security Issues page for any additional actions on your site.
Submit your site for review.
It may take some time before recent updates to your site's status are reflected on the Manual Actions page and in our search results. If you have additional questions, please see our Webmaster Help Forum.
Sincerely,
Google Search Quality Team

I guess I can't do a reinclusion request anyways with no manual penalty, but is it wise to do the disavow on the other links?

Indeed, URL would be helpful. It's very typical to see affiliate sites that have very thin actual content, and it's also typical for the author to defend their site in the same way you do. Google doesn't particularly like these kinds of affiliate sites, but there's no need to build conspiracy theories.

Links in signature will not help your SEO. Not on this site, and not on any other forum.
Who told me this? An ex Google web spam engineer.

    What's your excuse?
