Is directory submission still important?

If you manage to list a few good directories, yes, directory submission is a good strategy. Just make sure that you dont submit your site on a lot of directories in a short time. Just be natural and uniform with it.

You are right, every SEO should have a high page rank directories list and submit website on daily basis in 15 to 25 directories then i could be helpful .

I did a test some 6 months ago: 2 new sites, same niche, going for the same keywords.

One site, I did 2530 directory submission thingie.

The other site, I created backlinks from a handful of sites I own (in the same niche).

The site with the directory backlinks, I got to page 9 for my main keyword; the other site, I got to #5.

Draw your own conclusions and do what Paul suggested.

Back in 2011, I used the same 2530 directories on a different site. They, together with 45 or so links from article directories got me to be #2 for a keyword with 6,600 monthly searches. Life was beautiful. Alas, neither ezine sites nor directories of any kind do the trick no mo'.

Yes Directory Submission help you much as if high quality sites are more restricted then if possible directory submission, social bookmarking, and other social network are more useful.

Local niche related business directories can still be beneficial, but avoid free submissions to poor directories as Google does not favor those links.

For gaining backlinks directory submissions will not help you because this method was abused these past few years and lots of them are low quality sites but few of them are premium which is paid and has limited time exposures.

Directory submission has nothing to do with rankings.

You can say that old directories are good to getting backlink. The reason to get backlink from directory is to relevant backlink with the help of directory you can get relevant backlink.

I made scrambled eggs this morning. That has not helped my SEO at all.

If I had posted a crappy article on some ezine and gotten 2 nofollow links, I'd have wasted my time.

Lucky for me, I made scrambled eggs, and that's helped me. I guess it's helping my SEO indirectly because I can concentrate on building links that work.

SEO in general is a time consuming process. I think it is important to be listed in local directories but shouldn't be overdone.

  No it doesn't. It provides you a link from a newly created page that they don't create links to. You're better off creating a tumblr page and linking to your site from it, then creating a blogger page and linking to the tumblr page. And that's not quality.

There's no such thing as "high PR site". And there newer was. PR stands for Pagerank, and it's about the strength of an individual page. Also, the publicly visible score has not been updated in nearly two years.

Did you check the backlink profile of the directory, and find that there were no hidden monsters there? What kind of page does your link end on? Is that page strong? Is it paginated? How many links are there on that page to share the same "Google juice"? It's not a new weak page?

These are relevant questions if you're considering a directory. Just consider the question of the backlink profile: most directories I've seen tossed around on forum such as WF are either as scary as a balrog, or so weak that you should not waste your time.
