"Links to your site" in Google WMT broken?

Hello guys. About a month ago my software website has been targeted by low-life spammers via automated software. They have infiltrated by blog section and created a poisonous blog post, to which they spammed over 20 000 backlinks over a period of 2 weeks. Since then I have been cleaning/disavowing/reporting/404-ing backlinks like crazy and I've come a long way. I also deleted that post and made sure it returns a 404 error. Here's the problem. When I check my "Links to your site" data in WMT, it continues to show me my website has 20 000 backlinks from whatever source domains. Now, I know that can't be true, since I've done all I can to destroy that spam and this post that my website was linked to no longer exists. When I check for most recent backlinks, WMT tells me they were from 08.09.2015 and then the spam stopped, but the data remains as it was weeks ago. My question is, is WMT completely and utterly broken and severely unreliable, and if not, when in the blazes is it going to update with the new data? It's been weeks, I'm getting worried and it's costing me dearly. Thanks.

It might be months until the data in WMT is updated. They are slow to update.

It does not mean Google does not know about the efforts you made. WMT just never has recent link data.

Thought so. And what's even worse is that there's no reliable free tool with which to keep track of your backlink profile. The closest I can think of is Ahrefs, but, of course, such tools are paid. Anyways, thanks for the response.
