Can you rank a forum thread over a website in Google?

I was just wondering, if you have a high authority forum and you mak a large thread there, with pictures, videos, high quality article and do some comments! Then you build links with a keyword (it's also included in the thread) do you then think you can outrank a regular website that is selling the service you made a thread about?

I have been looking at this in Google, so far I can't find any example where I get a forum url up rather than a website selling a service searched for.

Example: I enter Web hosting in Google, I get the well know top 10 hosting companies up there, not a single link to for instan webhostingtalk.com or (if it exists) to another high authority forum.

Any input would be much appreciated.

Can you rank a forum thread over a website in Google?
Are you a copycat or a bot (Apr 11, 2015)?

I ask because there wasn't much point in answering the question If all I was doing was responding to a bot.

Both a forum & regular website have webpages which is all you're going to rank, so yes, you can outrank a regular website page with a forum webpage.

In the end they're both HTML pages/source code which is what Google bot is crawling.

          Foolish questions DESERVE foolish answers.

A forum thread is a page or pages. Pages rank.

Of course a thread can rank over a so-called website, but
then some forums ARE websites....like warrior forum.

A lot of what I search for comes up as a forum thread, because
I search for stuff on php, cpanel, html, apache, etc.

If you search for help with adobe, what will you get? The common
website, the forum, or both? Oh but wait. They are all part
          of the same website.

I imagine you are asking the question because you did not know
          that web pages rank...not websites.

          Any page is fair game.
