What is keyword research for?

is it solely for finding terms within your niche and then using those terms within blog posts on your website to rank for said terms?

Keywords at the end of the buying cycle are keywords that indicate a person has been exposed to a product before - has been said that a person has to be exposed to something up to seven times before they actually buy. I don't know how true that is, though. However, some examples of this are when people look for very specific products. Because of this, they tend to use longer keywords. In your case (think you said you work in automotive industry), people would be looking for very specific vehicles that have specific features.

If you work outside of that industry, it's common to see things like [product name + review], [author/vendor name + review] and so on. Using a keyword tool like the free Google keyword planner will help you. The more money people spend on advertising for specific keywords, the more money the keywords are likely to convert and thus, make them money. I hope this makes sense to you.

    It's all about TARGETING INTENT

If you target the wrong keywords that have the wrong intent, you will FAIL

    It really is that simple

In the old days Keyword research was easy just look at a persons website page source and use theirs , so you would just ad them to an article and post it and bingo same traffic.

Keyword research is for increasing organic search ranking.
So if you want to improve your ranking on SERP a proper keyword research and optimization on your site would be necessary.

  • I think keyword research is over-rated. There are new keywords being found and used everyday that Google has no history for...yet. Keyword research is just a historical record of whats been searched for in the past and is also only approximations and estimations. Keywords are the words that people are actually typing in to some search engine to find something online so Google does not and can not know them all. Most keyword research tools are based on Googles algorithm which the creators of these tools don't know what that is either. Therefore, any keyword research should only be used as a starting guide but not the "end-all-be-all". Writing content for PEOPLE and not search engines will always be the best thing to do regardless of any keyword research or so-called optimization. You never know if and when the keyword combinations YOU used might end up being the ones people start to target because you got great traffic from them, eventhough they did not show up on anyone's keyword research tool. So don't put too much stock in it, in my opinion.

I'm going to go back to OP's original question because I think it is a good one that is often overlooked by newbies.

1)Keyword Research is the process that you go through to determine what words or phrases a potential customer would type in to try and find your product or store.

2)You can use Googles Keyword planner to help find them You are looking for high volume search phrases with low competition. ie..what's the point of being on page one of a search term that only gets 3 monthly searches, etc. etc.

3)Once you have your keywords, your optimize your page to match. Then you build backlinks to good sites with the keywords as the anchor text.

Maybe over simplified, but I think you get the point.

Keyword research is used to identify how many monthly searches a keyword phrase is getting and then to check how hard it would be to rank in the search engines (competition) with videos, articles, blog posts FYI; Content online.

At first it doesn't make much sense. But when your site gets 7 month old you will start seeing more traffic from Google. And probably the majority of your traffic will be from search engines. That's when you are going to be happy that you targeted a vast number of keywords.

Also do a research about LSI keywords.

The point of keyword research is finding the keywords that would at the same time be:
    1. Easy to rank for - no point in finding crazy good money keywords if you can't rank for them
    2. High commercial value - used by users with commercial intent
    3. Easy to silo (break down into smaller groups and build up an authority site)

Keyword research to me is an odd duck, everyone says to spend time doing it and finding buyer keywords and depending on the niche what are they. Then people say find little used keywords because the main keywords are very hard to rank for. sometimes the same people will then say if a keyword doesn't get X amount of traffic not to bother with it but I say start small I would rather make a little money from lower ranking keywords and build on that then trying to rank for very competitive keywords that you have no chance of ranking for and make no money.

Keyword research is a process an SEO must undertake every now and then. If you have a clear definition about the product or service you want to ‘sell’ with your website, you should be able to come up with relevant keywords to make your site searchable. As your product and the market will evolve, your keyword strategy should do the same.

The object of Keyword Research for organic search, is to identify keywords and phrases which have a high monthly search volume and low competition (i.e low volume of pages with the same keyword in title or url). We call these keywords ‘opportunity keywords’ because they provide the best opportunity for us to get a page indexed and listed on the first page of Google.

Search engine optimization means using specific keywords in specific places on your website. Your web developer might populate some of these for you (e.g. URLs, title tags, page descriptions, and image alt tags). But one facet of SEO that confounds many webmasters is the proper usage of keywords in website content (i.e in the text that your customers actually read). You can try this by a SEO expert.
