My homepage is ranking for a keyword another page has been optimised for

Hi, A site I have been working on has been doing well with its rankings but I have noticed an issue hopefully someone can help with. I have optimised one of my pages for a particular keyword but I've just noticed that my homepage is ranking for it even though the term has only been used once in the title.

Should I avoid using any of other page keywords on my homepage?

    Happens all the time on blog style Home pages where the Home page has 10 blog post with content snippets & each time a new blog post is added it bumps the 11th blog post (or whatever number) off the Home page.

    What's happening is the Home page is more established & probably has a better/established link profile while the new blog post/page is new & weak as far as SEO/links.

    Try a static Home page & it should self correct in the SERPs assuming your Home page isn't targeting the same keyword.

    Also, you may have OVERoptimized the intended page causing it to be penalized.
