Verbatim searches for local keyword?

Hello Warriors,
I have 2 fast questions for you.

1) I have a client who is interested in ranking nationally for a normally local used keyword.
The keyword I'm talking about is "window fixtures" but for the italian market.
Would it be beneficial for him to be ranked in the first position of Google for this kind of keyword?
My doubt is that, when I use the Verbatim tool of Google, it shows me the national ranking but would he ever benefit from this?
I mean, wouldn't the people just always find out the local results instead of the "national" ones? Or they will find the local companies around "ONLY" if they are logged in into their google+ account?

2) Would a website created with the purpose of ranking only nationally benefits from having GMB?

Thanks in advance for the answers,

Kind Regards,
Andrea

The keyword window fixtures isn't a local keyword unless traffic adds a city name to the search query. I would target it like any other global keyword.

I'm curious if Pizza or Pomodoro will lessen national placement in #1 place
while it'll be providing added value for local SERP placement?

For Google it is a local keyword, at least for the result shown.
When I search "window fixtures" on Google from my PC (located in Turin), the results that show up all are local companies that could provide me that.

The doubt is, if I rank nationally (with the verbatim filter) wouldn't in the search be shown always local companies?

Did you check these local companies' onpage optimization and anchor text?

Because when I do what you did, the only local company that shows up, uses my city name onpage... The rest are national chain stores that optimize for every fricking city, town, commune or hamlet.

I rank locally quite nicely... I don't rank nationally...

Though I used to have a site with pages that ranked nationally... Never used my city in anchor text or onpage... Was never shown locally...

If you give Google an indication that you're located in Piacenza, for instance, and a searcher tells Google she's located in Piacenza and she searches without location, Google might figure she's looking for you... But without location indicators... how would it know?

So, I just did a search for a keyword where I'm #4 if I add the city in front. I'm #125, when I search for the keyword without city. Google gives the 3-pack at the top, then the rest of the results in the first 5 pages are national companies that have a page for my city and 1 local company that's going for the keyword without city and the keyword with city.

        So, the short answer: No.

That's not a local keyword for organic SERPs where I'm searching from (US) on a desktop. Even the #1 ranked Home Depot doesn't show a local store address.

If I search for "windows fixtures" in italian the first results are all locals.

Tell Google you're in another city, Palermo, for instance.

            Then search again.

Any city name added to the OP keyword will return local SERPs. Cities trigger local SERPs because they're GEO locations.

OP is your browser history/cache cleared?

Maybe there's a lot of local competition for your GEO location but there's none on organic SERPs where I'm searching from (incognito browser).
