I use SEO Profiler, it's great once everything is set up such as getting your keywords on there etc. One of the benefits is that i can see where competitors are getting backlinks from.

Opening up a can of worms here :-)

Personally I use SECockpit for Keyword Research. Arguably the foundation and most important part of SEO in my opinion. AHrefs for backlink analysis but remember none of these backlink tools are 100% accurate. Buzz Sumo for top content, Google Trends to further enhance keyword research, link prospector to supercharge your link-building opportunities (expect a lot of manual trawling through spread sheets here) buzz stream for outreach and like a CRM for link partners moving forward.

There are a lot of great free tools out there, just depends on your budget, how much importance you place on this stuff etc.

You should cancel that. Rest seemed reasonable.

Edit: no idea why you would want that if you have ahrefs. There might be something you're missing here but as soon as I heard social shares I closed the sales page.

Keyword research and keyword focused SEO is becoming less and less important.

This is quite possibly the worst advice ever given in this forum ever.

Google is moving towards semantic searches.

I can't really respond to your comment in a way this complaint with the rules of this forum, but I will try. If you want to follow tabloids that's great, real SEOs rely on data. That article literally suggests that keywords are irrelevant, with the same logic aliens obviously must exist and we should be worried about UFOs and the apocalypse. Obviously there are aliens living in the core of the earth.

Edit: and if you read the comments of that post, multiple people have identified that the author of that post has absolutely no idea what he is talking about.

I read similar advice "just have good content and SEO will take car of itself."

Everyone raves about my content yet I am getting 6-8 unique hits a day.

              Started key word searching today.

Yeah the car doesn't drive itself, you need followed links from authority sites, or at least sites with more DA/PR/MR/CF then you (whatever estimated metric you prefer.) It took me awhile to master targeting a keyword, I realize this sounds silly since you basically just make sure it's in the <title> and <h1> tags, but I had to create about 300 pages of content before I really got the hang of it. Since you want the title to sound interesting and unique but you want the keywords in there too. Also took me awhile to figure out how to work additional keywords into the content in a way that's effective.

Best advice to remember here is that you can always change the content of your page after publishing it, just do not change the URL. This is probably the best reason to use an SEO plugin for wordpress, they give you full control over those elements independently. I highly suggest tweaking content periodically, find a page that's not performing and screw around with it. I keep track of this in a spreadsheet. I always wait 30 days or more between changes, but because I have so many sites it takes a lot longer to get back around to it.

Think of content like a race car, if it's not performing you have to tune it and test.

You have it ass-backwards, firstly define exactly what it is you want to do, then look for the tool(s) that will do what you want it to.
