Does Having a Server in your country could help ranking in any way?

Hello Warriors,
do you think that having the server where the files are hosted in the same country as the business location would help ranking in any way?
(I don't think so because what if we use the CDN on it? Wouldn't Google be confused? I think it all rely on the real speed of the website, if a website load fast it should not be penalized in any way but still wanted your toughts about it).

Thanks in advance,
Andrea

Well, it doesn't make much sense to host a site in Mexico while targeting Russian traffic (example). Site speed is a minor ranking factor.

Google does look at the GEO position of traffic especially for local keywords, easy to prove, do a search for the keyword weather & Google will give you search results based on your ISP GEO location, not your GEO location when searching on a desktop.

Personally I'd go with a local server If targeting a single local location If I had a choice, assuming everything else is equal (uptime, etc...).

Having server in the same country helps with site's speed. All non CDN sites for example in Asia or Australia are slower for North American users and vise versa. Since google is using site's speed, it is a factor.

Well. I guess it's a bad news for me.
Servers in Italy cost a lot and the services that they offer are pretty bad.
Is it an "important" factor for SEO?

Thank you again anyway to both of you who answered.

If you're on a slow server in Italy, you would be better off with a faster server in the USA or anywhere else for that matter.

To me, it is a non issue. It's like suggesting that you can't be on a server located in Houston TX if you're trying to rank locally in Chicago IL.

      Non issue.

Those are two different things (Italy vs (Chicago vs Texas). Italy is half way around the world from the US & has 4 Google server farms in Europe. Transferring data across the transatlantic fiber cable and back per each server request is already going to be slower than the Chicago to Texas path. I would at the very least get a UK server.

I have no idea why a webmaster would jump outside of those 4 European server farms when all their local traffic is contained in those same 4 server farms.

The point is, it doesn't matter. There are plenty of US hosted sites ranking well, very well... in not just Italy but every European country. There's a lot more to focus on than where you host your website.

Hosting has no role in seo.

No Web hosting is not a factor to count Ranking of a website in Google SERP.
