Hi there,

Is there anybody out there who can show me exactly how to add a robots.txt file to a wordpress blog?

I've tried adding the relevant plugins and for the life of me I can't seem to work out how to do it.

Any help would be seriously appreciated.

Thanks

Just create a notepad file called 'robots.txt' and place it in the root of your domain using a FTP.

    Don't need to plugin

If you log into your hosting account, and then go to your hosting account's FTP client, you should be viewing your personal computer's file's on one side and on the other side should be the files of your hosting account.

By default the hosting account side should automatically open up to the root directory. If somehow you wind up in one of the sub-directories (sub-folders) you should be able to keep clicking the button that takes you up one directory level repeatedly.

Eventually when it stops refreshing, you know you are at the root.

The easiest way to add a robots.txt is via the KB Robots plugin:

WordPress › KB Robots.txt WordPress Plugins

If you have a modern WP install then it should be possible to install it from the WP admin panel w/o any hassles like FTP and so on.
