Hi Warriors,

I have a client that offers a service and want to rank pages of his site for the main KW + Several cities that are in his US State.

Should I do something like this?

www.website.com/city/kw.php

Thanks for your time and ideas on this!

Bret

It's a basic silo, I would build it like this: hxxp://domain.com/keyword/city

That way it doesn't look spammy repeating the keyword (it's a single keyword page on the URL structure).

Build up most of the authority (strong backlink profile) for the keyword page (.../keyword/...). Then the keyword page backlink profile will filter down to each of the city pages.

Add backlinks to each city page as needed, each of those cities will have unique SERP competition.
    • hxxp://domain.com/car-tires/houston
    • hxxp://domain.com/car-tires/atlanta
    • hxxp://domain.com/car-tires/chicago
    • hxxp://domain.com/car-tires/denver

Here's a basic silo link structure (screenshot below).
      • Blue Pages: Inbound followed backlinks (as needed depending on competition).
      • Green Page: Silo parent page (main keyword).
      • Yellow Pages: Silo child pages, in your case they're city pages (ex: Houston, Atlanta, Chicago, etc...).
      • Orange Page: Home page.

That diagram really helps explain the silo structure and back links....thanks Yukon!

Here is a site that comes up very well on Google....

Traverse City, MI 49684 Garage Clean Out Service

Seems they are using a database to create a URL on the fly...based on my search keywords....have you seen this before?

I just glanced at the URL/Cache, for some reason they're redirecting the webpage URL.

This redirect the cache URL from:

      cache:www.debrisguys.com/list.php?what=garage-clean-outs&in=michigan&where=traverse-city

      ...to this cache URL:

      cache:www.debrisguys.com/list.php?what=garage-clean-outs&in=michigan&where=brooklyn

Looks like the same guy has a few domains doing the same thing, that's a small town he's targeting in the example but he's owning it.

Usually I'd say stay away from dynamic URLs & stick with static URLs. I didn't really dig in & research but first glance doesn't look like any real competition, at least for the example keyword in the screenshot.

It's a good offer but it depends completely up to you whether you will do the job or not. Some people who offers job through private messages do not pay accordingly sometimes. So, make sure the payment method.
    Wish you good luck.
