Help on SEO and backlink

Greetings to all, I have a few questions in my mind for a while and I figured I should start by asking here. Hope someone can help me.

Some background for a start. I have a new blog abt 1 month old. To date, it has about 8 blog posts. One post got ranked top of page 2 on big G, bringing me an average of 20-25 visitors daily. That happened within 2 weeks (I guessed with the help of Unique Article Wizard). A week after tasting this kind of traffic, the visits stopped and now I'm averaging 5 or less a day. I checked to find it in the middle of page 3 now.

I have a long tail of 8 words sending 95% traffic into this page. Here's a scenario of what happened.

My long tail keyword (example only): How to tell if a dog has tummyache.
Google's sending me traffic based on broad search (example only) : How to tell if a cat has tummyache.

Questions:

1. With such success, I tried an EXACT search with "how to tell if a CAT has tummyache", I couldn't get in the top 1000 with Google. Anyone can share what can I do to ensure this doesn't happen to other posts?

2. On backlinks. Since blogs update with fresh contents everyday, should I send backlinks to the main site e.g. <domain>.com or <domain>.com/2009/09/<post>?

3. If I'm using tools like the UAW which sends unique contents to blogs and directories, should I limit to the number it goes out to everyday? What's a good number to start off for new blogs?

4. How many posts will Google deem "trusted" to be ranked tops for competitive keywords?

Sorry for the wall of text. Hope someone could help me on these questions which have been bothering me for a while.

I'll help out where I can.

You should send backlinks to the individual blog posts, optimised for the same keyphrases as the on-site optimisation.

I'm not sure why you would be getting visitors for a phrase that is not mentioned on the the site. It may be worth reviewing your content to double check.

I've never used UAW, but would imagine it sensible to limited the number of articles you send out every day. It's also important to vary the anchor text as much as possible, which make it look less spammy.

Google's 'trust' is not based entirely (if at all) on the number of posts you put. Domain age is said to be considered, as is the number and quality of backlinks pointing to your site. Some people also believe that you analytics data such as bounce rate could also come in to play, but I'm not sure.

Hope this helps. I'd be interested to see the domain, can you PM me with it?

Netcel, I'm not too sure abt the part you mentioned abt optimised for the same keyphases as onsite optimisation. Could you elaborate that with an example? Pardon me.

To further the understanding on my situation, I actually have the keyword CAT within the article.
Title goes like this : how to tell if a dog has tummyache
Within the post goes something like : blah blah blah... having a dog is different from a CAT. blah blah blah
Hence google's ranking me good for broad searches on : how to tell if a CAT has tummyache

What I can't understand is - I have specifically within the posts italics the 8 long tail words few times and ironically google's picked up the wrong keyword

Finally I'll probably go for 25 daily submissions a day instead of the 50 suggested by UAW.

Your blog have yet gain "trustrank", you won't see much traffic...

The traffic drop is normal, just keep writing post and building backlinks.

Your site has no "trust", your keyword won't rank at all, Google deliberately
filter your site to see if you do anything funny, trying to manipulate the result, so just don't do anything than what you should be doing: writing post and creating backlinks.

Oh, yes, don't do more than 2 post a day... this is very important for new site! The first 2 weeks should be 1 post, after 1 month, you may do 2 posts, and 3 months later you add a bit more...

Trust rank is awarded after 3 ~ 6 months, depends how many authority link you have...

My conclusion: Just keep building content slowly, and build backlinks as much as you want, and should be from High PR sites (PR 3 and above), this will help your site gain trust rank fast.

Don't worry about the traffic and ranking, just do it right, 2 weeks to 1 month, your site should be back in order. This happens to many new sites, it's normal.

    Appreciate your sharing KK.

    Not sure your question.

I meant - I'm faced with issue of backlinking to my main site or the permalink to a single blog post within that main site.

Or should I include both main site and permalinks and let UAW send out to the directories?

Sorry if I tend to get long-winded getting to my point.
