Your Top Strategies For Link Building (Within Last 6 Months)?

So, I often find that most SEOs can make link building very complicated. For me, it's always been imitating how link building takes affect when something goes viral.. or maybe not so viral.

We start thinking in complicated layers but, just an example: You've published a great article. Now what should happen? If it truly is a great article that got picked up, lots of social buzz (Twitter, FB), links on web 2.0 blogs, and blog/news type of sites in general. They would more than likely link to your article by its given title 95% of the time.

Anyways, that's simple stuff. Follow common sense rules when building your PBNs especially Content should be unique, hosting as well, and the stats of the domain? Overall good stats with no spam history.

It's been a long time since I've been here. I'd love to hear what's working for everyone else, particularly within the last 6 months.... thanx.

What I found effective this year? Web 2.0s and now my small little PBN. I'm tracking some test cases, right? Nothing crazy yet, but enough jumps. My web 2.0s brought me in top 20-100 for a lot of my keyphrases and now my PBNs are bringing small jumps (for my clients too), so I'm super excited.

I do think that you need to be careful in how you do these. My stuff is a balance between manual and tools, though admittedly, it used to be manual with web 2.0s. Right now, I'm outsourcing it and will see how that goes while my attention is on building small PBNs, cleanly.

Anyways,

With automated tools or manual? If manual, how much time does it take you, what's your general strategy?

      Thanks.

Frankly, from an SEO perspective, forum posting is probably not the best use of your time. I'm sure it helps if you have hundreds of forums in your niche talking about your site, but that would be very hard to manage unless you use software... and you probably don't want to do that.

Blog commenting... I have had some good success with it... when focusing on blogs that use the Comment Luv plugin. Again, it took a lot of commenting. In fact, I believe I commented on every site under the sun that used my keyword in their blog... and that also used the Comment Luv plugin. Again though, you do NOT want to automate this... put in the elbow grease and you will have rankings for years. I did it 2 years ago and am still on first page of Google for anything related to that keyword.
Had I used software, most of those comments would have been deleted and I would still not rank for my desired keyword.

I have not met anyone in recent years that has had success with directories. As far as I know they are ancient SEO history. Didn't directories get replaced by social bookmarking sites? Heck, even those are almost useless (with the exception of a handful of them).

Article directories have become spam directories as well, so very little value there.

Going back to what you were saying about PBNs though, I too have good success with them. The key - in my honest opinion - is more that they are REAL sites than that they have hidden contact info etc.

I do very little link building to my money sites these days except for PBN links. I do however test all kinds of links to my PBNs. Web 2.0 being one of them.

Thanks for the detailed response, konradbraun! Do you mind sharing where you've bought decent links? Or do you create your own? I find this topic fascinating, as everyone has different standard of building their own PBN.

So you shoot web 2.0s at your PBNs (and probably social bookmarks)...?

PBN's are a good way to do linkbuilding yet you need to be careful not to be caught by Google. It's considered a black hat method and you need all sorts of complicated things to setup a PBN network (Unique IP addresses, Unique content, ....)
