Hey I was wondering what are best practices or tools that help you with seo when you do a site redesign.

I am using search metrics and moz(free)

Any insight into what to look for when doing a audit for site redesign?

    Well, the goal is to not disrupt pages currently ranked on the SERPs so keeping internal links intact is a good idea. View the text version of your old webpages so you can see what Google is looking at when they crawl your webpage. Assumes the site has pages ranked, If not then do whatever you want because you have nothing to lose with a page sitting at position #87 (or wherever).

    Use the Firefox plugin below with the 3 settings for viewing the text version of a webpage.

    Download the browser plugin.
    • Disable all javascript
    • Disable all images
    • Disable all styles

    Check the backlink profile (Ahrefs, etc...) to make sure you don't have any wasted link sources pointing at 404s.

    Use Screaming Frog to check for broken internal links, 404s & internal link structure.

    That will get you started.
