Managing Your Google Footprint

Hi all, much of what we do revolves around Google and google operated accounts. Google adsense, Google analytics, google webmaster, Gmail etc...

I'm interested to know if anyone has a lessons learned or best practices guide to managing your Google footprint.

The idea is that it's certainly easiest to have a single Google account for all your sites, analytics, etc. But does this risk linking you and all your sites together, should one of them fall out of favor with G?

So, is their an accepted or proven strategy to mitigate risks but manage multiple sites effectively?

I am not sticking only with "G"
I used to use some tools from bing, yahoo and others too. However about 70% of the tools are from our big "G" :p

  • I think you are only allowed to have one Google account.
All of my sites are in 1 webmaster tool account and I am linking sites together. Why wouldn´t I be allowed to link my sites together? Even if they are not relevant. Sometimes visitors are clicking on these links anyway. People are usually interested in more than one thing. I do all this openly, so Google knows it before they give me any ranking.

The links are probably worth less when Google knows they have the same owner, but I don´t care. I think it´s easier to get some links somewhere else than opening different accounts, getting different hosting packages (when Google bots get into my account they find all Add-On domains and new ones are getting spidered (but not necessarily indexed) even without having any backlinks. So I would need different hosting packages) etc. I think a few, not even relevant and probably only worth a little more, backlinks aren´t worth the trouble.

Between adsense, analytics, adwords and webmaster tools they probably know all of your sites providing you use one or more of these services. Also Google is a domain registrar, so they know when a domain is registered and I also think, some correct me if I'm wrong here that they can see all the whois info, even if you do a private registration.
