The big question...

We have an webshop with two categories
- Women
- Men.

We have an Unisex Shampoo. We want to show them in both categories.

But what about the URL path?

There is two solutions

Solution 1)

Use an main categories for the URL path. Which mean we can display the Unisex shampoo in both categories but we can only have one unique URL which could be.

www.domain.com/men/shampoo.html

The downside on this solution is that if a women is clicking on the shampoo. The URL and breadcrumbs will display Men, which can lead them away.

Solution 2)
Use mulitple URL and canonical tag. Here we can remove the downside for solution 1 and have both URL + breadcrumbs.

www.domain.com/men/shampoo.html
www.domain.com/women/shampoo.html

The downside on this solution is i have readed that Google can punish / pay attention for the duplicate content.

If you use canonical tag then there should not be any duplicate issues. Canonical tags are used to handle such situations.

If it's for men, it should have an image of a man, and some description that appeals to men. If it's for women, it should have an image depicting a woman and some text that appeals to women or to men who're looking for shampoo for women, not to men looking for shampoo for men.

Shouldn't that be the first concern, a page that converts?

If it's for both, why not have a unisex option?

We have both product only targeting Women and Men, but also unisex product targeting to both gender.

Thats why we want to show the Unisex product in both categories ( Men & Women).

And I was suggesting that, though it's unisex, you can make a page for it for men, and show that in the men category, and a page for it for women, and show that in the women category.

My idea being: your copy being more appropriate for men or women means conversions will be higher.
