What to do for a new site

Is it a case of just waiting for the site to mature (if so how long?) or could I actively work now to get it appearing in local searches for next month?

What I have done so far.

Listing in Google places.
Got many citations.
Started building a few local backlinks.
Make a decent blog post once every couple of days related to the topic of the site.
Site is wordpress running yoast.
Set up and using FB, Twitter and Youtube pointing to site.

What else can I do?

It's a garden maintenance business, so being in the UK I have a few months to get the site up there in Google before the season starts.

All help and advice appreciated.

    Hey,

Local SEO is nice. It's not that hard to rank in local searches and you've already done well. As for the result, it depends on your competition. But google will definitely pick it up sooner or later.

Just be patient, work on something else. Create valuable content, learn copywriting, learn email marketing, learn how to create landing pages, it will serve you good if you want to have sales online.

    Hope that helps you.

Thanks for this. Over night I have actually skipped up a few places on google places and am now fourth for my keywords as opposed to sixth and seventh, so things are working!

Google only show 3 listings in the local places listing so one more place to go and i'll be on the first page

    Cheers

My advice to you is continue what your doing. Get everything set up and ready to go before the season starts. Post/comment on related forums/blogs, post original, unique content on your blog more frequently, and continue to do the same on your Social Media Accounts. These are a few things to help get traffic to your site, help it get ranked quicker, and possibly get you sales out of your area(if available).

Good Luck to You. Keep me updated on your progress.

Thanks for this. I can't afford Yoast local pro at the moment, but am interested in it.

The citations I will do a few more later today.

I'll find it hard to get .gov and .edu (is that .ac.uk here in the UK?) links but will try and find a way.

Any idea how I can find high authority local blogs?

All on google maps and working on reviews

        Cheers

Forget about that. Edu/gov is BS or a scam, it's not advice you should listen to.

Do you have any strong or at least decent backlinks? The original post doesn't really say anything about this.

Not really. Those links may not do anything at all, but they may also be some of the most toxic spammy backlinks you can find.

It's quite likely that these forum posts don't help you that much. Google loves to index forums, but I hear their backlink value is low even if the links are followed. Forums are by definition full of user-posted content, so it'd make sense to treat the links as nofollow.

Links in signature will not help your SEO. Not on this site, and not on any other forum.
Who told me this? An ex Google web spam engineer.

          What's your excuse?

It seems to me that you are on the right track and doing all that needs to be done.
How much time did it pass since you first launched your website?
Did you submit your website to Google?
It takes some time to be ranked, depending on your competition, but because your website is a local one I don`t think you will have trouble ranking good for long tail local keywords.

How did you build your backlinks? Watch out for duplicate content!

Also, if you didn`t already do it, you should use some tracking tools to better monitor your visitors. I suggest you use Google Analytics in conjunction with SEMrush.

I need to get my head around the analytical stuff. The site is nearly a month old.

I am struggling with the backlinks and am open to ideas

Don`t get discouraged! We were all discouraged when we first started out.

For the backlinks part, I suggest that you try to do some guest posting on other forums.
Create an original article, find some blogs that are related to your niche and ask the administrators if they want to post your article in exchange of posting a reference to your own website.
As for the analytics part, here is a great tutorial that I encourage all my affiliates to read:

My suggestion is to continue the SEO activities, meanwhile try some postings like landing pages, banners in the social media sites. This also helps to increase the high ranking.
