Learn a strategy, implement it, track the work and results, then keep learning.

Your foundation of knowledge needs to be built on testing what you've read, not just soaking up as much information as you can.

I heard someone say something a while back called "information constipation".

That's where the information coming in overloads the information going out (through testing) and your brain gets constipated, and you get stopped up.

SEO takes time, so it's hard to stay focused and easy to get information constipation, but you've still gotta test, then test some more. It's the only way to learn SEO.

If you want to test for free, start finding some expired Web 2.0 sites (like Tumblrs and Weeblys) that had authority at one time, and rank for some eazy-peazy keywords that only bring a few bucks a month.

Once you start getting a little more confident, chase after some harder keywords. You'll have a better idea of how everything fits together after you've done it a few times.

Then what you're reading will actually make sense and you won't be overwhelmed. You'll get invigorated with a new strategy you can implement and go back to work.

Personally I'll prefer you moz pdf about seo.Its easy to understand and full of details from the beginning to advanced level. Then you can read current updated about industry on some news sites such as Marketin land, Searchenginewatch, Searchengineland, Moz etc. You can also read about seo in google help support or join their community where you can frequently ask any question and the expert will assist you to resolve your issue.

Try YouTube, Moz and SEO forums to learn SEO. I think Google is a suitable teacher for SEO. You can find a lot of free videos about SEO. You can also order paid SEO courses but forums are also best for SEO.

This is my experience. Learn from "SEO courses, Marketing Land, Search Engine Watch, Search Engine Land, Forum, Youtube, Moz" do helps.

They'll teach you about the latest news, the trends, off page seo, on page seo, local seo, keywords, spinning, web 2.0, blog network, social signal, citation, authority site, backlink, tier 1, etc2. For beginner these informations are gold. It will help you to know about SEO.

But there's also other way. How you can learn faster, and apply SEO that works?

This works for me. Here's what i did, i reverse engineer what already works. You can do it by purchase one of the best SEO service. I'm not saying you have to purchase $1000 SEO service, most of them are overpriced. What i was talking about, SEO service that cost around $60-$200. Think of it as an investment.

You can learn a ton. Just buy one of the SEO service that you think will help you to learn SEO. Remember this, you can learn a lot from them.

For me it becomes very clear after i've ordered one of the SEO service. I learned about tier 1, tier 2, tier 3 etc. You just have to analyze them. Best of all you can learn what works, you'll learn a lot more rather than just learning seo from blog post or courses.

And if you've mastered it, you can create your own SEO service and make it your own, that was just some idea.

To the OP, if you really want to learn what works, all you have to do is study the SERPs really. Look at what top ranking sites are doing.

Check out competitive markets like insurance, credit cards, pay day loans, weight loss, and porn (the porn industry pretty much invented everything that IM'ers do online today).

The best strategy is learning through doing. A lot of work can be outsourced to Fiverr nowadays.

Check Moz and choose an easy key work to work with first. Then follow the guide to check your status. Then you have specific question. Then raise your question here is better..

"Learning SEO" don't necessarily go together. There are literally hundreds, if not thousands of blogs and sites and answers on Q and A forums like this one on the best way/how to learn to do SEO. In my opinion about 80% of them are pure BS. SEO is one of those things you can't learn to do by reading a couple of blogs or tutorials somewhere. You have to have a "feel" for it. Can you learn to swim...or ride a bike...or drive a car from watching videos or reading blogs?..not really...SEO is the same. So rather than give you a bunch of links I'll give you just one...

I didn't know about Moz, search engine land and other SEO blogs before so I started on reading Wiley's SEO Bible. You'll learn basic things about SEO which the most important ones you'll need to keep in mind. I suggest that if you really want to learn then take time to read it or Moz' Beginners Guide, then make it a habit to visit moz, search engine land and algoroo every single time, just to keep yourself up-to-date.
