Move forum to subdomain instead of main domain to boost seo on main domain ?

Hello,

I have a blog and a forum in the same domain.

The forum have something like 2 million posts, but a good portion of it could be considered "thin content/low quality" by Google, as a lot of topics can have zero posts and such... without my control.

I think this is affecting the rankings of my blog as a whole.

Would be a good ideia to change the forum to a subdomain like forum.site.com or a new domain ?

If so, should I use 301 redirects or the redirects will make the problems the same even in the new domain ?

Thank you all.

Domains and subdomains do not boost each other
    unless linked up.

Unless you become a name brand forum, like
    the WF, forums are DOA.

Concentrating on a forum is bringing you down,
and might be sullying the blog.

Ditch the forum. They are a pain in the rear end
    to maintain and keep clean.

Unfortunately, ditchting the forum is not a option. I have lucrative sponsors there.

Transfer the forum to a different domain would be a good option ?

    Thank you for your reply.
