PBN Question - Manual Thin-content penalty

Hi all,

I am a lurker for the most part so I apologize for the long post here.

A few years ago I built a few money sites with a goal of passive income and made a small PBN as that was all the rage back then. All through the major PBN updates, mine never got hit or de-indexed. This PBN helped to rank 8 of my money sites (some better than others).

In December I all of a sudden noticed my main sites were not ranking. When I added them into Google Webmaster Tools sure enough I had the Manual action: Thin content penalty applied. So I read what it meant and thought ok I can see what I did wrong. I had good content, but I tried to get the visitor over the Amazon most of the time (except for one site) without providing any other articles of help or anything.

But then I started reading how others got these messages when Google discovered their PBNs. And I have no idea what to think.

I have since re-built all of my sites on new domains. I've added helpful articles, do not ask the user to goto Amazon as much, etc. I tried to mold it like other affiliate sites I have seen that still rank.

So here are my questions:
1 - How do I know if my PBN is affected? All of the sites are indexed. I have also started to try and rank one of my sites and do see it appearing for the "keyword 2016" term on page 1. Is that a sign that it is still ok?
2 - Can I still build links while my new websites are in the waiting period?

Thanks all,

    I am sorry about you.

Many people said long time back how risky PBN are. Well, at least you got those profit for years.

I don't know how to exactly answer question 1. But for question 2 the answers is: yes. In fact I've done that before and it gave me results.

Is the entire PBN still indexed on Google SERPs?

If the PBN is all indexed you're still in the game, If it's deindexed it's toast.

You're confusing public link networks with private link networks, two totally different types of backlink sources.

Public link networks are ignorant by design, they advertise paid SEO links.

Private link networks are private, they don't sell links to anyone.

Thanks, appreciate it. Yup it is still entirely indexed. It's just so odd that they manual actioned on 4 of my sites. Two other sites using the same PBN remained ranking and used similar setups (which have now been fixed). It's a big mystry me as to why these sites in particular got caught in the radar.

      Thank you

        Thank you
Good luck getting out of the TAP.

Understand that you can take the content down, delete the site, delete it in GWT, get a new domain, then put the content back up, then fix your links. I would polish the content up a bit and mix the content types, you can't have all amazon.com review pages.

Ya that is certainly what I am doing now. Any idea how long I should expect until I rank some of these new sites? Most went live around mid to end of December. It's been a while to be honest since I have created a site from scratch and don't know when to expect them to see my content. I know it has to do with keywords & competition but I feel for at least a few of these there is barely anything else in the index matching some of my terms.

          Thanks!
