Google ignoring certain keywords

Well this is not the exact way to word the dilemma, so I’ll explain with an example:
If you search for “cheap cars san diego” google will display the results without the word “cheap”, “inexpensive” also brought the same problem. At the bottom it just had a legend (where is screen capture when you need it!) saying something like ”results displayed without the word “cheap” see results with cheap. So technically it is not ignoring one of the keywords, it is just showing you the results WITHOUT IT!

After I saw this I tried it again, but now google did show the results! What’s up?

Is google only testing this feature? A lot of sites will suffer it this is implemented, as many have purposefully targeted such keywords.

Has anyone experienced something like this lately?

I just tried your searches and both worked normally for me, so I am not seeing what you are seeing.

I wouldn't be surprised if they're testing it. I've seen a number of articles in the last few months about both Bing (Live at the time) and Google running all sorts of tests. I think it's safe to say they are constantly trying everything you can think of, and then some.

For instance, I know they recently both tested delaying delivery of search results (yes, actually making it slower on purpose) just to find out how much of a difference it makes to end users. Now rumors are that they are going to start showing preference to sites that load faster.

I'm betting they were measuring the CTR for the first page of results with and without those particular keywords in the results. Incidentally, this is a good reason to diversify. Google can change on a dime and I'd hate to have my whole business hinging on where I rank.

Sometimes this pops up, other times it doesn't. I think google is starting to consider the word "cheap" to be in the same category as free or viagra...
