Hi,

I launched a new website few days ago.
It was not indexed by google .
After adding site map to WMT and setting my preferered domain to www. i checked my google index a few hours later.
Al pages were indexed but as non WWW. (i verfied in WMT and saw no mistakes)

What are the risks when google indexes the www version i will get flagged for duplicate content ?

    Redirect with the .htaccess file.

I dont think this adresses the problem of duplicate content thay may arise as google already index the non www instead of the requested www. ?

Did you test the URL? Either it redirects or it doesn't.

Found the problem. It's an opencart installation and i added the redirect at the top of the file. Little did i know opencart default installation sets the prefered domain to non www. I dident notice it because the .htaccess is very large and im pretty new to all this.

I have now set the non www version in WMT as this was already indexed as such.

This leads me to my next question. Should my sitemap look like http://example or does it not matter if i submit it as http://www.example?

Second related question. My top domain is indexed as Example Domain But all other pages as non www. Is there any specific reason for this ?
