This is just word salad. Would you really assume that your target audience lurks in article directories? If you do perhaps you'd be interested in buying some high-quality snake oil too.

Backlink is the only benefit, and as Yukon pointed out these are usually spam sites.

Article submission sites are generally counter-productive to SEO nowadays. Many companies have had to disavow (through Google Webmaster Tools) and undo their previous SEO "link building" activities at article submission sites because Google has penalized them for this.

Of course there could be some article submission sites that manage to work "under the radar." But I wouldn't take chances.

If you want to engage in link building, then I'd suggest making guest posts at authoritative, reputable blogs or trade journals. Or do something that creates conversation and thereby encourage natural links. As for what to write, focus on creating original content that has value for readers and is topically relevant to your product or service. Insert only one or two links to your site - home page and/or deep link with relevant but not spammy anchor texts.

Yes, go for guest posting. It has more value. Google and other people naturally trust it more. Trust means it will be shared more, which is means chance of more traffic and natural backlinks.

This is what I've done for a long time and with great success. Simple article submission now just not gonna cut it.

There is not much benefit to article submission like there used to be. You might get some traffic from the article directory you submit to, but not like you used to. You could also hope someone picks your article up and uses it in their email newsletter or maybe as a blog post, All in all I do not do it anymore.

Article submission is very beneficial to SEO inasmuch as it allows the article submitter to fill empty hours with something that resembles productive work.

A link that comes from a page that has no backlinks has little juice to pass. An article posted on an article directory has no backlinks. An article posted on an article directory has, therefore, little juice to pass.

You need boatloads of this kind of link to make any difference to your SEO.

So, if you choose to go the article submission way, create backlinks to your articles...

Or, reconsider. Make friends with people who have pages that have tons of backlinks already and no outgoing links and persuade them to link to your page.

Or start working on your very on PBN... Takes time, but once you're set up, a couple of links will take you very far.

Submitting to article directories no longer helps with higher search ranking since Google does not consider them as quality links.

But it will surely get you a little extra referral traffic especially if your articles are good.

The links are nofollow these days and the handful of directories that are not are either extremely limited and only allow extremely high quality niche specific content, or are so weak it's a waste of time. If you happen to be in a niche where there is a super high quality directory, then submitting there is worth your time, if you find one that relevant to your site, be prepared to be rejected multiple times.

For starters it may be something. But you won't rank anything just using directories.

I don't think you know what "link diversification" means or how that works. I agree though for the most part.

Google doesn't evaluate what type of site you got your links from, they evaluate the authority. Granted, that flow might vary wildly from site type to another site type or it may be all stemming from the same source.

No. It doesn't work that way. What you're getting is a link that, at best, is weak and at worst it's useless. Most article directories give nofollow links, these days. Nofollow links don't help SEO.

As regards getting traffic, that is about article marketing not article submission for SEO. Which means the article has to be not only well-written but in such a way that it functions as a link-bait.

I have written both kinds. Way back, I had articles on Ezinearticles.com that got tweeted and copied (with and without giving me credit) left and right and articles written for SEO purposes only.

The latter, got read, on average 0 times. The others, got read a thousand times or more in the first few weeks. Some are still read a dozen of times a month now, though it's years later.

The link-bait style had conversions of only 18-20%, on average, conversions are 4.9%, the well-written articles, and they are full of good info, some of them have conversion rates of 1%.

Because, again, good content alone ain't good enough. There's the thing about titles, about style, about paragraph length, about what the first sentence is, etc., etc.
