Question about meta name="Keywords" content=

So I noticed that my webmaster didn't have this command in the page source and I saw it on a competitors website that has really highly ranked. I copied their info and told him to paste it into my page source. I just now noticed that I lost all ranking for multiple keywords. Do you think I lost ranking because I copied the keywords content of my competitor and google caught it? I just checked and I'm not penalized by google, but I literally went from page 3-4 to unsearchable for certain keywords. Help!

I don't know. But what command was it?

Be carful when making deep level changes to how Google may see your site.

Was this some sort of keyword tag? Are you trying to tell Google what keywords to associate with your site?

If you have too many keywords, or they don't match your content well, that may have an effect maybe if I had to guess. Or maybe Google seeing 2 sets of keywords now or something to that tune? Sounds like an algorithm response of some sort.

Man is that one mixed up answer. That meta tag is a common one, but not used by google.

Nobody has used that since the days of the early 90's and the plethora of directories there were.

It's not an algo response , deep changes, or any other such nonsense.

It makes no difference if you use meta keywords or not.
      It's ignored.

Many websites still try to feed google tag data. Ignored or not screwing around with it is not recommended if you want to remove the possibility of an algorithm response. For all we know what ever keyword data he put into his source could be doing something to confuse googles interpretation of his sites keywords.

My answer is fine... And still stands... You don't want to do anything to mess with deep level changes that could screw with your rankings in unknown ways.

I don't know why you love to troll so much dude.

But you have been of no help to anyone you have responded to.

Ahh I was wondering why my webmaster didn't put that command in there. So google just ignores that command? I wonder how I just dropped from the rankings then? It is so weird...I held a consistent 3-4 page ranking for two separate keyword terms and now nothing nada....

I am guessing Google is getting confused or maybe has revalued your keyword or keyword rankings.

It sounds like you feed them Keyword data and they are vomiting from it. Id get rid of the changes and see what happens. Maybe googles view of your keywords has changed from feeding them new info.

      - It does not matter if Google ignores it, people have reported odd effects from messing around with keyword tags and stuff in the near past. Best not to screw around with that stuff too much and focus on improving your site in other ways.

Snackmemory- I am just going to do away with it since I already have keywords at the bottom of the page. Hopefully it works! Thanks!
