Keyword and Domain Name

Hello,

I am a bit of a newbie when it comes to affiliate marketing and am in the process of building my first site while at the same time, learning the ropes. Just wondering whether someone could help me out with a couple of things.

1) I have been using market samurai for keyword research and was able to find a keyword that ticked all the boxes (the 4 golden rules):

"how to stay motivated to lose weight"

It seems to have enough traffic, isn't too competitive and the SEOV is reasonable; I'm just wondering whether it is too long?

2) How important is it that the title matches the keyword? Would "howtostaymotivatedtoloseweightsite.com" too long? I'm assuming it is but was under the impression that the full keyword should be in the title?

Alternatively, I can narrow the domain name down to motivatedtoloseweight.com but would this then cease to be niche? I'm not sure how close a match the domain name needs to be. Of course, in the health and fitness industry, good domains are hard to come by ha.

I would really appreciate your help, I am eager to get this decided and put the site up ha.

Thanks

Meant to say "2) how important is it that the domain name matches the keyword"?

I would be careful about following Market Samurai's advice in picking keywords. They are mostly full of crap. I also hope you did not spend money for that software yet. It's a total waste.

As for your question, I don't see a single domain in the top 20 with that phrase in it, so there is your answer. You can name the domain whatever you want and still rank fine.

Thanks Mike, I'll just go with the name then. Unfortunately I bought Market Samurai, oh well...

I'm not going to lie about this, when picking keywords, I think up a topic the article will be on, throw it in the keyword planner to see if people search for it (I like to see 1k+ searches), then I outsource an article with the keyword in the title.

This frequently leads to a situation where I can't actually rank well on the keyword because it's too competitive, but I rank on a bunch of long tails, so instead of going for the longtails, why don't you just let google figure them out for you?

I'm pretty sure you're over thinking this.

Edit: Why would you want to look for keywords you can easily rank 1 on from day 1? That kind of defeats the purpose of doing SEO. Go read Enigma's adsense guide in the other forum if that helps you. (It wasn't useful stuff to me but hey it's there...) So you're going to target a bunch of super easy keywords, then do SEO for what? To rank lock your site in the #1 spot of keywords that get searched 30 times a month? That tool is totally useless.

As far as that keyword goes, uh sure why not. It's definitely not going to be easy to get onto the first page for that exact search though.

As far as domain, do you see any domains like that ranking for that keyword? Obviously not. Get a brandable domain name.

In the domain, not nearly as helpful as it used to be.

Focus on keywords in the preferred site landing pages.

See if you can conjure up a domain under 20 characters.

Think about incorporating branding as opposed to keyword stuffing.

Weight loss niche is hard to rank in general. Be prepared to focus more on driving traffic to the site instead of ranking.

Thanks Jill, I'm not expecting much from the first site; I see is as more of a learning experience. All of this stuff is new to me so I look forward to learning about it ha

Keyword in a domain name is no guarantee for SEO. Backlinks, reponsive design and a fast website load are important and obviously good content. And a lot of patience.

motivatedtoloseweight.com definitely looks better. The other one is way too long and looks kinda spammy.

It also depends on what you want to do with this website. Would you want to post just a few articles and then do heavy SEO in order to rank them well...and then just leave it like that? Or maybe you want to build an authority website and regularly post articles, build a fan base etc. Cause in that case you might want to find a better name...something that would be a "brand"

Since it is my first project, I'm probably going to build a smaller site to learn the ropes then with a bit more experience, build an authority site.

Changed the domain name to "allinthemindfitness.com" after following the advice on this thread.

Thanks for the help everyone :-)

Selecting the right keywords for the SEO Campaign of the website as well as having a good domain age are two important factors in the promotion of the website.
