How important are keywords in domain, compared to having them in a subfolder?

For example:

vs
www.something.com/keyword

    EMD's aren't as powerful as they used to be and they limit your website's content to pretty much one thing. Go ahead with a 'subfolder' but stuff long tails in there rather than 1 word.
