If you're not sure where to start, I recommend you check out QuickSprout's free resource, "The Advanced Guide To SEO".

Just Google it, it should be the first result.

It pretty much covers everything you need to know, at least to have a very solid understanding of all the parts in the SEO process.

Social media has nothing to do with SEO, but content and backlinks are usually involved. But do you really benefit from this kind of "advice"?

Actually, in can generate branded searches and those are a quality signal, it's in one of the patents. Not to mention it's a channel to build links through.

Saying SMM doesn't directly improve rankings, of coarse, it doesn't. Your new FB campaign that generates 10k likes will not directly improve your rankings, but that much visibility can cause some links to appear somewhere, in theory... From analysis of competitors it seems to work but they typically don't seem to be getting links that significantly affect their ranks, but the links are completely natural.

I don't know of any respected SEO aware site owners that are not doing SMM.

Some of my sites get natural links, I have absolutely no idea where they come from. It's very possible somebody on twitter saw a tweet and decided to link to my site /shrug.

The most important part of SEO is copywriting AKA content.
Sure, some might argue that link building is more important than copywriting, but I would like to ask them: Where will you point the backlnks if you don`t have content on your website?
The most important thing when building a website, is it`s content and the on page SEO that comes with it.
If you think about it, websites should be sources of information for visitors. That is why they were built in the first place.

You can point your links to a blank page, and have that blank page rank.

You're confusing 2 different aspects of marketing: getting people to see the offer and converting a prospect into a buyer.

You need the 2nd if you're to make money, but it's not part of the 1st.

The question was: best method of SEO.

And the best method is: get backlinks from pages that have lots of backlinks from good sites.

No. Google doesn't give a rodents behind if the order of the words in your piece is something they've not recorded before. This is the reason why they do content analysis and semantic parsing, after all.

  You misunderstood; Anhvu is from the school of 'fresh, constant content gets you high in rankings and all other methods suck.' Because "That the best method I know."
  
  And, say what you will, if you deposit a dollar in your bank account every day, at the end of a lot of days you're going to be a millionaire. Anhvu's only wrong about the other part: if you deposit 1000 dollars in your bank account every day, at the end of 3 years you'll be a millionaire. Anhvu just doesn't believe that the larger the deposits, the sooner you're a millionaire. Or, maybe, Anhvu just doesn't know how to do the $1,000/a day deposits.

  ..1. High quality content for on page and high quality backlinks for offpage. I have sticked to the two and was able to maintain my sites' ranks in the top SERPs for their own keywords.

Well, sure. But that's hardly ranking your site for keywords.

I'm not sure if I'd even consider reputation management to be a part of SEO. Please note that I'm not saying that it's not important, just that it's a separate but related field.

And I'm not saying that you should not. Actually I've been recommending social media, SMM and outreach in many threads. I know companies and freelancers who are very visible in social media, and it seems to work very well for them.

In my opinion it's important to know why you're doing something. That allows you to improve your posts to the direction that gives you the most benefit. If you're posting just to get a nofollow backlink you're probably not giving enough thought to the content and sharing.

Both link building and copywriting are valuable to your SEO campaign. Though participating in social networking sites do not directly affect the SEO rankings of your website, social signals are emerging as ranking factors as search engines determine how to leverage our social interaction and behavior.Similar to links, getting quality social shares is ideal, but being shared widely on social networks is still helpful. Good things happen when more people see your site or brand.

Unique content, High PR backlinks, Social Signals are huge nowadays.

As everyone else has said Do Follow or No Follow links are essential for SEO.

If this kind of stuff is a little difficult for you check into a SEO company and purchase the services for 3-4 months and watch yourself start ranking like crazy.

Unique content is not part of SEO, GruntWorkSEO.

High PR backlinks is a meaningless phrase: links are neither high, nor low PR, nor anything in-between. Only pages have PR. But Google's stopped updating it in 2013 and recently it's decided to remove traces of it everywhere in the public can see.

As everyone else has said Do Follow and No Follow links are essential for SEO is crap on 2 levels:
1. Not everyone has said that, me, for instance.
2. Nofollow are not only not essential, they do nothing for SEO.
