Everywhere i try to read and understand about Seo strategy i get the same content
blog posting and guest commenting
generate bakclinks
forums
industry related directory submission
social bookmarking
article submission
press release sites
Business profile creation and so on
Am however wondering what possible things you can do to promote your e-commerce website if it deals in sporting goods
Any help would be appreciated

    SEO and promoting your e-commerce site, while it overlapps, is not the same.

    For SEO? Good link building and good target keywords.
    For Promoting? Facebook ads if you have budget and affiliate marketing if not.

    Sponsor local events
    Run a blogger meetup at major fixtures, buy them all drinks in advance of the match
    Sponsor sports charities
    Run your own program helping disadvantaged kids train in xyz sport..

    And this would be the kind of useless BS you should just ignore. Industry directories are the only thing on your list that's got some potential. Well, press releases in the case that you've actually got something that could be picked up by an actual newspapers.

    Namdas' ideas are not bad. Some of the strongest links I've seen for my competition come from this kind of approach.

    Links in signature will not help your SEO. Not on this site, and not on any other forum.

    Thanks for the insight fellow members
    But the business is a pure online business. Cant do the regular Seo for this category website .I find it comparatively challenging than other service industries to make its online presence
    What namdas said is doable but not all client are keen in doing this.And doing that means you have to unload a lot of green papers from the pockets
    Am still in my learning phase
    So i need doable technique.
