Are forum Signatures helpful?

I've been told that forum signatures are good for SEO and I've been told that forum signatures are bad for SEO and I've been told that forum signatures don't affect SEO.

WTF?

I hope I don't get penalized for cursing but this is frustrating.

No, they are not useful as a backlink. But you can use them to get direct traffic to your website.

You won't get penalized if it's a "real" forum account.

Your junk car forum sig is junk.

Nobody here cares about the link & you're not ranking any pages with the link so it's useless spam.

Well. They are not very effective... But I would also say they are good for traffic. Especially if it's from related to your niche forum!

OP isn't making any money with junk cars on this forum. Nobody here cares.

He's buying junk cars in Georgia for pennies on the dollar for what the same car can be sold directly to a scrap yard. What are the odds an SEO lives within driving distance of his buying area & just happens to have a car they want to sell for junk. Never going to happen.

Google knows his nofollow link is junk.

I won't help your website ranking, so forget it. If you want to promote your junk car website, why not go to related forum. Yes, it will drive traffic and then once people know more about your site, it will help you rank better. But nobody in this forum wants to look at your signature let alone click on them. People from this forum are mainly freelancers or affiliates, so if you put some kind of job opportunity in your sig, it will get clicked.

Forum links does not help to get ranked. Even if they give you a do-follow link those links basically passes no link juice.

OP, you should just ignore these guys. They haven't got a clue. This is the problem with a forum and topic such as this: there's a constant flow of people who've been fed some spurious stories that don't match reality. If you'd follow the money you'd probably find a bunch of link seller shysters.

Forum signature links are usually nofollow, and the ones that aren't do not help that much either. Google has moved to devalue types of links that the site owners haven't marked properly. Sig and profile links are user-provided by definition.

Even if the links were effective getting hundreds of links from a single website isn't.

From a SEO perspective, the signatures have no effect on SEO. In order for a link to have any effect on SEO, it needs to pass link juice, but all of the signatures links are nofollowed (no link juice passed).
One might argue that those signatures can bring traffic to your website and this statement is somewhat true, but in order to bring traffic your signature needs to be on the same topic as the forum. I fail to see how your website about junk cars is in any way related to an Internet Marketing forum...

For someone who promotes a link where everybody is "calm and friendly" you drop off a lot of uncalm und unfriendly comments ... also on other forums. I'd really like to ask you in a very friendly way to keep calm and not bullshit and idiot everyone in every possible place ...

For the last 2 weeks, I decided to include links to my services on
my signature on 3 forums. After analyzing my analytics yesterday, I can say that
I got traffic back to my site and I landed some new clients. So, I would
say that it was effective for me as I essentially made sales.

I should say that the forums I posted to were related to the services
    that I am offering.

Forget about forum signature links and focus on how you will contribute to the respected forum site in which related to your business field. Its a learning site to improve one's business knowledge and not for backlinking purposes.
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[10576115].message }}
  • It isn't bad as long as you do it correctly. Make sure that the forum where you leave your signature and link is relevant to your site. Just leaving your link on your signature alone won't help your SEO campaign, but if you regularly post good responses on any thread, interested people may visit your site.

The most signature link is No follow. That can not rank your site any more. The most people use signature to get more traffic.

They're not going to help you in terms of SEO, but they can help drive traffic to your site. That is of course if you're using trackable links and GA.

Of course this only applies if you're providing useful information/advice on the forum.

Forum signature is one of the ways to build backlinks to your site.

But, the most important thing is to get backlinks from variety of sites, not just from forum signature links. So that means you should be focusing on building backlinks from article directories, forum profile links, forum posts, blog comments, social media posts, RSS directory submission, YouTube videos, etc ...

You should be creating backlinks slowly and steadily too, otherwise building 100 links for few days and not building anything will only raise a RED FLAG to Google.

So, do not only build backlinks from forum signature. Build from wide range of backlink sources.

You can try RankCrew to build high quality 250 backlinks from all these sources ...

Yes forum signature are very helpful for SERPs if used correctly.

    1. make sure the sig isn't "nofollow". Sigs on WF are "nofollow" so it won't help you
    2. niche. You need to get on forums about cars or scrap metal. Something niche related
    3. don't spam. Be an active user and sincere. If mods/admin think you're spamming, they'll ban you
    4. find popular forums that have good DA, moz and PA metrics

If you follow that you'll help build your website in SERPs. I know from real hands on experience. It does work.
