De-indexed BUT Google say Yes & No!

Can anyone work this one out.
A few weeks ago I had 9 sites deindexed (yes, site:mydomain.com= no results!). They were all a few weeks hold, just starting to make sales, were thin Amazon affilaite sites with a little unique content BUT not enough for Google I guess.
When I checked the webmasters tools it said that the sites had gone against their requiremenst (or words to that effect).
Well, now when I check the WM tools again, the site are listed as either "Pages from your site are included in Google's index" or "Googlebot has successfully accessed your home page. Pages from your site are included in Google's index"
BUT searching on site:mydomain.com still shows nothing!
So what is The big G up to?
Anyone help with their own experince with this?
