Should I switch domain because of ahrefs rank?

Long story short I started a website a little over a year ago that didn't work out as in it never ranked for my keywords. Along the way I switched the website to a different domain where it is now and I also changed it up quite a bit so now it's ranking great for some keywords and not so great for others.

The other day I took a look at ahrefs.com stats for both websites and the old one is looking much better to me so I'm considering moving the website back (I've got it all in control with 301s etc.). The objective would of course be to rank better for all keywords but there's always the risk of it failing. It's a bird in the hand kind of situation I guess.

The numbers from ahrefs are:

Old website
Global rank: 6,800,000
URL rating: 20
Domain rating: 44
Backlinks: 475 (314 live)
Referring domains: 90 (65 live)

New website
Global rank: 42,000,000
URL rating: 20
Domain rating: 34
Backlinks: 855 (535 live)
Referring domains: 59 (55 live)

What do you guys think would be smart to do?

That's the funniest shitz I've read in the last 7 minutes.

Twitter ranks #2, maybe they should drop their domain.

Have you checked your alexa rank lately?

Thanks for your constructive advice! If you don't understand the question there's no need to answer.

      A) I have a good and informative website but so does the competition so if one domain has a better backlink profile, using that domain instead it should theoretically help increasing rankings.

      B) The comparison to Twitter is irrelevant as the situation is entirely different. I have two domains that have both contained more or less the same content. One of these has a significantly better ahrefs rank than the other so I'm considering moving to that domain. Would you not think I should switch if my current domain was rank #42,000,000 and the alternative was rank #2?

Did you redirect the old site to the new one? That'd seem like and obvious thing to do especially if you've got direct backlinks to the content you moved across. And if you'd redirect the whole site you'd get the backlinks for both sites (minus the juice that gets lost in the redirect). Well, in theory at least.

Maybe your old site has some better backlinks. These statistics don't give any insight to your situation.

Ahrefs rank has nothing to do with ranking in search engines.

That's what they were trying to tell you.

  • You do not need to change the domain for the site's rank. Always post good content to the website, try to use social media websites to drive traffic to your website!

It will always provide you good visitors and boost your ranks. Don't forget to choose the right keyword!

Follow the way and the rank will go higher

      No, traffic doesn't boost rankings.

Of course more traffic is usually a positive thing, and some of the visitors may actually like your site enough to link back.
