    First step:
    Study your competition ie. the sites that are ranking for that keyword. I'd install Moz bar, and see how strong the sites are compared to yours according to Moz. Note that those stats are not always too accurate, but you need something. See what kind of content they have.

    It's possible that you don't stand a change unless you're willing to put a lot of resources in SEO. You may be able to answer this question after the first step.

    First, you need to focus on On Page Optimization factors of the website. Once its completed then Off Page Optimization (Link Building Strategy) to be implemented for the website to get organic website traffic for your website.

      I think the very first and basic step should always be to use google webmaster tools abd do all they want you to do. Since you rae probably doing SEO to get ranked better in google SERPs you should reallytaketheiradviceon how to get there.

      Then focus on your content and metas. Wordpress has lots of plug ins for that. If you are not using WP you can still look at what their plugins are doing and replicate this.
      But also read a lot, there are things no plug in will do for you, stay informed.

      When you think you have done everything that you can do on page you should look out for an off page strategy. Build up a backlink profile for instance, get active in social networks, forums, blogs, etc.
