Guys, if you got time, you might want to check out Sony website at www.sony.com.

I hate to say this but this is the kind of site Google wants to see more often and prefers to rank longer.

If you look carefully at each of the categories of their main site whether it is Sony Playstation, TV, gadgets and accessories, you will notice that every one of them is a sub-domain name.

That means they installed different Wordpress themes into each sub-domain as separate category.

And their search icon is very interactive.

Only problem is building this kind of site on your own takes a lot of time.

Besides installing theme, plugins and adjust permalink and Reading settings, you have to update with new content everyday.

I'm not sure what you're talking about. I didn't see any subdomains linked from their site.

The site doesn't seem to be on WordPress. What makes you say it is? It's pretty silly to just assume that any site is WordPress-based.

Yes, it's possible, but that site looks very custom-coded. Web-based tools can't determine the system. The only thing I can say for sure is that it's on Apache, and they're using a CDN.

That's BS. Fresh content isn't a ranking factor.

      1) The only subdomain I see is " support ". Others are directories.

      2) This site is not built with Wordpress.

      3) Google ranks web pages and web sites primarily on user behavior (user metrics). This is the number one factor. And users don't care if the page they see belongs to the main domain or to a subdomain.

Any domain name that says http://yourdomainname.com/category is a potential sub-domain name.

When you try to install your Wordpress into your domain name you just bought within your C-Panel Quick Install, you have 2 choices.

    1. Install Wordpress into your root domain that just says http://yourdomainname.com

    OR

    2. Install Wordpress into your sub-domain which you can create a folder that says http://yourdomainname.com/whatever-folder-name-you-give

For content wise, it is not just about posting words.

    But pictures as well.

    Be it images or info-graphics.

The more you give these regularly to your visitors which engages and makes them stay longer on your site to read what it is all about, the more Google will reward your site.

    Got it?

LOL If you confuse subdomains (http://subdomain.yourdomain.com) with your folder hierarchy in the CPanel ... you still have a lot to learn.

Nope, you're not using that term even nearly correctly. You could describe that kind of structure as a directory. If you'd be using a CMS they'd be pages or articles, but they look the same as directories in the filesystem.

Your cPanel is talking about the directory used for the site. cPanel needs to store the files for the addon subdomain under the public_html directory because of filesystem permissions etc. sub.domain.tld gets the files from public_html/subdomain or whatever you choose as the directory name.

It's also ludicrous to imply that someone like Sony would run a cPanel server, and would configure their sites in such an ass-backward way. cPanel is intended for hosting companies and their clients who usually have relatively simple sites and needs. Makes no sense to assume that a behemoth like Sony would run such a stack.

Your explanation is the most confused one I've seen on this forum in the past couple of weeks, and people here are exceptionally good at getting things wrong.
