RIP Google PageRank score

Now it's official.
Google made announcement that it will be removing dreaded "PR" Page Rank for good.

PageRank -- the secret sauce that Google used to become the giant of the search world -- is no more. No more for the public, that is. Google's numeric rating of how important it considers pages to be will soon no longer be accessible to the public.

Good riddance. I guess the next wave of inane questions is along the lines of "where I can see the PR" and "why it's n/a".

I'm not doubting Google will remove public PR but searchengineland is a pain in the ass with never supplying reference links to the original source.

They always link to another page on their own domain as If it's the original source. Damn that chasing rabbits (internal links) for the source. I don't want SELs version, I want to see what Google says. I looked but can't find anything on the net about the subject besides SEL crap.

    Here's Google's original blogpost:
[ignore, this was the wrong link]

Yes, it's the same old one. Apparently they've got nothing new to add.

Thanks but that has nothing to do with public PR, it's all about mobile.

        Crap, that's true. Sorry.

Can't find a real blog post from Google, but at least they seem to have confirmed this according to SE Watch.

That figures (John Mueller) Barry at SEL is obsessed with that guy & his Youtube chat videos.

I don't believe/follow much of anything Mueller says. He has a history of posting things that are obviously wrong.

Either way we already know how link authority works so it's not like Google is undoing 15 years of proven SEO by turning off public PR. Google algo hasn't changed, they just turned off the lights back in 2013 (public PR).

I don`t know why did they took 3 years to remove the PR. It`s not like it was of any use to anybody anymore.
Or maybe they saw all the gurus recommending to check for "high PR websites" and they wanted to stop the madness

Google's brass has expectation that by stopping updating PR, it would be slowly
but surely forgotten most definitely underestimating "brain power" of hard die,
never give up hope of PR believers but now finally they have grasped the reality
"this will never happen" so they pull out the plug.

Mark my word, it will take year or two before brain dead stop talking about PR.

I doubt it. If it were just two years that would be good. I see it more like five years at least. Its been nearly two and a half years since they stopped updating it and some people are still asking and answering how they can improve their pagerank.

How else is anyone supposed to sell WSOs or fiverr gigs with high PR .gov/.edu links?

Odds are a high PR page isn't losing most of it's supporting authority links. So yea, it's still an indicator of authority. Obviously look at the backlink page link profile to see If the PR makes sense.

No, it's not the same solution like 5 years ago.

If you look at the backlink profile, I can see a use for the PR, but like I said, taking in consideration just the PR looks more like guessing to me.
And let`s be honest, how many people who are talking about PR know how to check the backlink profile?

Meh.... I've seen that "just look at the backlinks to see theory" on this forum a few times but that only works with some sites you know. You go in a niche you are unfamiliar with and with literally billions of pages on the internet you are not going to know many of the sites plus sites change navigation setup over the years (companies redesign websites, Magazine and news site change internal link flow weekly). Guessing is no more accurate than Majestic metrics.

Plus Google isn't stupid. the best thing they could do is tweak how they value seed sites now. That's the whole point of going dark.
