20 links internal links pointing to the same page, this could be a problem?

Hello guys,

Consider that I have a event that will occur in 20 different states, and in Brazil we have 26 states.

In my site I have:
  • A special page for national events (that will occurs in all the 26 states).
  • 26 differents pages to states, one page for each state.

So, I will have to list this event in 20 different pages of states (you can consider these pages as categories in wordpress, despite my site not be built in a CMS platform).

Considere that I will use the tag rel="canonical" properly, even so I will have 20 differents internal links to the same destination and with the same anchor text.

Simple question: despite the care taken, this could harm my SEO and, at worst, bring me punishment?

p.s.: please just answer if you have had experience with this.

      Each page will have a 300 words unique text in the top, and after that 30 posts per page (as a wordpress category), predominantly differents posts, but as I said, eventually I will have, for example, the same link with the same anchor text in 20 differents pages. I wont have a post for this specific event in Sao Paulo, another post of the same event in Rio de Janeiro... just one post.

    Think about your homepage, or any category page in big website. *All* the pages in the website points to the homepage - and it can be much more than 20. No problem with that/

      That´s a interesting analogy, but this example envolves the homepage, not inner pages. I heard one time from a SEO guy that he was punished some weeks after activate the breadcumbs, and he was sure that the reason for the punishment was that because it was a specif test.

      But I think that in this case he used breadcumbs almost identical to slugs. Not my case.

    I agree with Nir. Many links to the same page are not a problem. An issue could arise if you use a "money keyword" as anchor every time, but even in that case it's unlikely to cause any problem.

    I wouldn't worry about that. Internal links are viewed differently by the search engines.

    Hell, look at Wikipedia. They use internal links like crazy, and some pages probably have hundreds of other pages that link to them using the same anchor text:



    Yet, Wikipedia is one of the strongest-ranking sites out there. Their internal links help promote their content.

    I would question using rel="canonical". That's a good idea if two pages are clones of each other, but if they contain unique text, I wouldn't do that. Internal links alone are not duplicate content.
