Help my websites ranking. I know it's a long shot and SEO is so much more, but It'd be nice to have some software to track my progress and/or suggest what can be done.
    Thank you.

I would probably rather suggest that you do no let software guide your SEO, but you let software assist you in collection of data and perform jobs your SEO (and let you draw your own conclusions)

For backlinks a combination of Moz opensiteexplorer, spyglass backlink tools

If you for sitemaps / technical analysis of sites, you can try A1 Sitemap Generator / A1 Website Analyzer (or for a free choice try GSiteCrawler / Xenu link checker)

I would recommend against tools that builds links by spamming forums and blogs with comments - even for outer "tiers" of websites.

      Completely agree with this.

Don't let "tactics" replace content or value. You can learn the first but without the latter all you have is an empty shell that if it does rank, may get slapped down later because your website is nothing but a little trick you are trying to play on Google.

Tools help us, they are not a replacement for anything.

    RANKFORCE

New software that helps the rank of any local business website and other websites that are overly SEO'd or have actually lost rank because of bad SEO.

Kinda pricey but awesome. Only for PC but I think it will soon be browser based for a monthly fee.

I tried market samurai before. Good for picking a domain but when it comes to doing th eon page and off page seo promotion especially in content generation, it's best to handle it manually to avoid getting banned.

I would say these three for competitive research:

    SEMrush, Moz and AHrefs.

I use all three for competitive research, tracking, ranking checking backlinks. of the three I know most about SEMrush. I made a video about how I use SEMrush to do research (this includes PPC research too) gonna do a more detailed post about it soon too

    http://bit.ly/1YqsaR8

It goes without saying if you actually know what you're talking about, you can build authority which is important, but tiering links can still be done but they should be only done as part of a larger overall strategy

I also use SEO PowerSuite and would say it`s worth every penny, though it`s actually less pricey than most of major tools. Btw, you can get any of their tools separately. Personally I`ve started with RankTracker and WebsiteAuditor long ago; one is tracking the rankings and monitoring the progress over time, and the other helps detecting and fixing all kinds of on-site issues and optimize.
