Can I use the same content I am using on my youtube description on my blog post? Does Google penalize for duplicate content? What if I embed the youtube video on my blog post when the content in the youtube video, its description and blog post is the same?

    That's not duplicate content. It is syndicated content.

    Just like Mike is saying this syndicated content and not duplicate content. As long as your not scraping articles from other website and putting it on your own website then your fine.

    Don't worry to much on duplicate content make sure your article's are unique and not ripped of other people's website so long you follow the rules and don't use any blackhat techniques then your fine.

    Well, first of all, yes Google penalizes you for duplicate content. By duplicate content, I mean content you copy-paste from other sites and pass it on as your own. Otherwise, if you're sharing content between your own sites, this is OK. Just make sure you continue to create value for your audience.

    IMO If you want to call it syndicated content it needs a reference link or cross domain canonical pointing back to the original source otherwise it's a low quality web scrape.

    With that being said, it's not difficult for an authority site to scrape another weaker domain/page & outrank the original source. When a weaker domain/page tries the same scrape odds are they'll fail at ranking the page espically If Google finds multiple instances of scraped content/pages on the same weaker/newer domain.

      Yup, reference link is the way to go.

      Canonical would make sense in a lot of cases, but not so much for a YouTube page and a blog post. They are too different in nature.

      Just link to your blog from the YouTube description and vice-versa from the blog post (just to be extra safe).

      If they link to each other, Google views that as good enough to avoid duplicate content.

      It'll probably be okay even if you don't link, but I prefer not to take chances.

    You cannot be penalized by doing that because it's your own original content.

    You'll get penalized if you copied other person's article.

    But if it's yours, there won't be any trouble.

    Google does penalise you for duplicate content but let's be very clear what duplicate content is. It is content duplicated on one on one website.To do that you would need to put the same article into different categories on your website or you would have to add it as a post and a page. That's duplicate content.

      Duplicate content on the same domain is not a penalty, it's Supplemental SERPs which is easy to do or undue by the webmaster unlike a penalty which is strictly Googles call & can only be reversed by Google.

    Duplicate content is one which is copied word by word from a website and pasted on your own website. Google penalizes those websites which perform in posting duplicate contents. If you rewrite the content in your own words then it is somewhat satisfactory in the eye of Google.

    How about... well, Ezine articles can allow you to post a duplicate content so long as the author name on the original post and the article to be posted in ezine is the same. How about that? Will Google penalize that?

      Google works on its own terms. It doesn't matter whether it is the same author or not. It sees if that content is being posted multiple times then all the links mentioned in the article will be in the alert list of Google and it may penalize them any time for sure.
