Hi Everyone

I bought a couple of theme from mythemeshop and after installing these themes, 404 errors of my sites increased dramatically based on the google webmaster tool

I contacted mythemeshop support center and they informed that these URL are .htm and eventually it will fade away. Further they asked me resaved the permalink section of wordpress again. I did that too.

Technically, if somebody spam on my comments section, when google crawler comes in, it create a .htm URLs and say, 404 errors. Basically, these URLs are created based on NOFOLLOW links

I blocked the commenting entirely but still spammers come and insert comments ☺

Please look at the screen shot of Google webmaster that I have attached.

Questions:

1. Will this hurt my Google ranking
2. Is there a way to stop these spamming completely or fix this .htm URL creation
3. Will Google avoid coming to my site since it creates a lot of 404 errors

Some themes can create such problems. Too many 404 errors can be a problem but it doesn't effect the rankings of the urls which you are presently ranking.

Why on earth would a theme do something like that? Sounds completely ludicrous to me. And I've been using WordPress for more than five years almost full-time. It sounds like there's something else going on here.

If your comments are disabled the only thing that spammers are achieving is an annoying problem in your comment queue. Or that's how it should work. Of course a theme developer could theoretically do just about anything with the commenting system.

The comment interface doesn't need the forms to be fully functional. You can try something like iThemes Security or Wordfence to block everything out. And in any case, these are the only must have plugins that you should install on every WP site.

Links in signature will not help your SEO. Not on this site, and not on any other forum.
Who told me this? An ex Google web spam engineer.

    What's your excuse?

It is very simple to solve this problem. You need to go to the connections tab int eh internet options and make sure that there is nothing checked in the LAN settings window, and if nothing is checked, do an IE Reset (after doing reset, you will loose the passwords which are saved on the personal webiste).

Here are some simple tips you can try to solve this problem from your end.

    1. Refresh page - You can press Ctrl+F5 to force a refresh on the page. The error may seem just because the page wouldn’t load.

    2. Clear browser’s cache and cookies - If you are able to check out the page from another device, such as your cellphone, removing the cache and cookies will usually fix the issue.

    3. Examine the URL - Make sure that the URL inputted properly. This contains spelling of the URL, correct slashes, file extension of the page and so forth.

    4. Scan for Viruses – There are some viruses files that will force a 404 Error on websites.

    5. Contact the Webmaster - Go ahead and send a message to the webmaster and let them know of the 404 error. If you are the website user then make contact with your hosting provider for more details. If the server is encountering troubles, it may return 404 errors.
