Redesign or new Site on new Domain (to keep the ranking)?

I have an 10 years old website with over 140 related Top 50 google-rankings.
Currently this site links from about 100 different product-descriptions to an external online-shop for digital-goods of mine.
I now plan to use a new shop-System.
What would you advise:
Build this new shop on the 10 years old Website (and replace the current site)
or
Build this new shop on the existing shop-Domain (or even on a new Domain).
Since the whole shop-traffic is coming from the 10 years old site, this shop would have the best place on this old Domain.
But I`am not sure if I could loose to much traffic because of this redesign, even if I do 301 Redirect for all current pages. I have not the best experience with redesigns in past.
Otherwise, staying with this external shop and redirecting the user from this 10 years old Website to this shop probably brings the conversion rate down.
It would be great to get your opinion.
