Is it Safe to Recycle content from a Google Penalised site?

Basically, I've got a site that was penalised by Google. I plan to delete the site, but wish to re-use all of the content on a different site. Is it safe to do this? My new site won't get banned for doing this?
Thanks

Google doesn't penalize content, it applies penalties on domains.

What was the penalty? Was it a manual action or you just noticed one day your Google traffic disappeared and there was no visible penalty in the search console.

If you got a manual penalty for unnatural links and no other site scraped the content, this should be fine. I would still take the time to look over the content and make improvements to it before you publish it.

If Google applied penalties to content, think about the insane negative SEO attacks people could do. I could scrape a piece of content off CNN, get it penalized, then take CNN.com down.

Also, whatever you did, I wouldn't repeat it. So if it was unnatural links, well don't spam the domain out again. They might keep a record of sites they penalize, look at your new site, look it up in their penalized sites database, and instantly ban the new domain, again, you would have to be breaking a rule here though for them to even look.

If the manual action was thin content, well uhm, no it's not a good idea to re-publish it on a new domain.

That depends on the type of penalization you got. If your content was duplicate from another site, then the new site will also be penalized. If it had nothing to do with the content, then you should be safe re-using it.

    Reason: "Pure spam
Pages on this site appear to use aggressive spam techniques such as automatically generated gibberish, cloaking, scraping content from other websites, and/or repeated or egregious violations of Google’s Webmaster Guidelines." Effects: All"

I allow an agency to publish content. The quality does read quite well, it's not junk, it's written by real people. But, there are some links..?
Not sure what to make of it.

That's a penalty because of the content most likely, I don't recommend publishing it with out fixing it. There has to be some serious junk in there somewhere. Pure spam is a pretty harsh penalty, are you there's not links to male enhancement or pay day loans in there somewhere?

I guarantee Google keeps an archived copy of deindexed sites.

Google already told you the problem, you should already know which one to pick from on the list they gave you since you built the site.

If they do (probably) they don't automatically deindex a site if you move it to a new domain. It might set off a flag or something and then somebody comes by later and checks. Which is why I would recommend changing things up, it shouldn't be a carbon copy of the old site. It should definitely be an improvement.

I can't see how they could dish out a penalty on a moved site automatically, there's so many evil things you could do.

If you put it up on a new domain and *fixed the problem* I don't understand why they would care.

Google told OP where they went wrong & If OP is honest he will use that to his advantage & not make the same mistake twice. See bold list below...

Google does not hand out slaps lightly, there's an obvious footprint involved.

What does that even mean (some links?)? If it's a link problem either you have junk links or obvious paid links.

I should also mention that the theme was free from a share site, which might mean somehow a virus has leaked in and caused an issue, since the content that I can see seems clear and valid. Not sure the best route. Remove the theme and install a clean one, check for a virus, then re-submit for penalization?

Since you're penalized anyways can you just give us the address? I'm kind of guessing here, if you want to PM me the address that's fine.

And yes, if your site got infected with malware and they put up spam content, fixing that and submitting for a reconsideration should work.

Doubtful that's the problem considering Google is sympathetic about hacked sites (This site may be hacked messages on the SERPs) & even warns webmasters in WMT If they think a site is hacked. Google doesn't instantly deindex a site just because they think it's hacked, you would have seen warnings.

Anyways, you can check a Wordpress theme yourself for base_64 link spam.

Not going to lie about this, if that's what happened I feel bad. Yet another person owned by a free theme.

Still it's a free theme so it's not like they lost anything, install another theme that doesn't have base_64 spam links. Google still ranks sites/pages they think are hacked.

Again I seriously doubt OP was hacked. If OP posted a link it would take a few minutes to prove either way.

You can always recycle content, but the way you do this is re-word everything. That is if we are talking posts. Make different titles . Do things as they were but just a bit different.

Looks like a typical free theme.

I don't see anything that stands out except the recaptcha, what's that for?

Looks like an ancient version of https://github.com/tutsplus/how-to-i...captchalib.php

There's actually quite a bit of ancient code and I know some of it shows up in my logs as 404s.

Whatever tmhOAuth it seems way scarier. What is that for ... ?

Edit: supposedly it's twitter api. Edit2: it is.

Thanks for replies. Not sure then. The content appears fine. The publisher does place links in each article though, but this would get an out-bound link penalty if this was an issue, right? Confused.

Did you take the site down and can't link to it?

Even if you did, what was the address? I can probably find it in archive.org

At this point, I have no idea what's going on and I can't help you without seeing it for myself.

They don't just toss out "Pure Spam" penalties for minor things.

If you would have said "Help my site Received a Pure Spam penalty, what do I do? Here's the link" You would be fixing the problem and not asking people to guess at what the problem could be.

You're basically asking "Hey my car is making a weird noise? What's wrong with it?"

We said muffler, doesn't seem like it's the muffler.
