My site was re-launched and the site URL is still the same, and all elements such as blog page and graphics are same except the site was re-built with a shopping cart using the WooCommerce platform (initially we cloned the site and worked on it from there before replacing the old look with new layout).
Since there are alot of new links I want to make and submit a fresh sitemap and submit to Google Fetech and Render. So questions are basic:

#1. Best way to design a site map and where to start, and save in Notepad?

#2. After site map is ready, what area in Google Webmaster Tools is best?
#google #make #sitemap #submit

If you need to generate an XML sitemap and have less than 500 URL's you can use a free tool like this one:

    https://www.xml-sitemaps.com/
or I think you can use Screaming Frog if you have it.

If you are running Wordpress there are several plugins that will create them as well.

To submit to Big G, open the GWT Search Console and go to Crawl > Sitemap > Add/Test button, in the pop-up add your site's sitemap URL e.g. /yoursite/sitemap-xml/

If your site is large you may also want to a consider an HTML sitemap to help visitors.

Why do you need an offline copy of the sitemap? There's several WordPress plugins that can build them for you, and those automatically add all the new articles you post.

Sitemaps obviously go in the sitemaps page. There's no other place to even submit them to Webmaster Tools. I'm not sure what you're asking here.

Links in signature will not help your SEO. Not on this site, and not on any other forum.
Who told me this? An ex Google web spam engineer.

    What's your excuse?

You don't need sitemap unless you have many thousands of URL. If you're building your site on normal CMS's and your site architecture is not too "tight", google will find all the pages and index you. The problem you will have if your site gets very large is influencing the Google bots to stay on your site long enough to crawl deep.

      Michael:
Initially when I rebuilt my site, it did not have a shopping cart. I had it rebuilt with the WooCommerce shopping cartoon and then re-launched it. Of course, with a shopping cart it needed security so an SSL certificate was installed to assure potential buyers their info would be secure. So relaunched from http to https://danscartoons.com which I then wanted to go into Google Webmaster Tools and "Add New Property" (https).
Upon taking this step, I realized it required a site map and I was forgetting all about Yoast plugin I had installed that already was taking care of this aspect for me. So in essence, all I really needed to do next was actually "Add New Property" and add that line of tracking code Google provides and this is where I currently am stalled.....trying to add the code into my "public_html" folder (see screenshot from in my Cpanel)

Tim3 have answered almost everything. Just one detail - if you are using Wordpress - in my experience "Google XML Sitemaps" is the best plugin to create and update sitemaps. Yoast is a great plugin too, but causes issues with sitemaps sometimes

Hi, This is very simple. Though there are some tools & websites available to generate sitemap but it generally depends on website platform. If you are using WordPress platform, then i must recommend you to use Yoast SEO plugin. If your website is developed on another platform, you can use the following website:

    https://www.xml-sitemaps.com/

Thanks LocalFame and yes, WebIndiaInc, I do in fact have the Yoast plugin currently activated and verified the current site map it has created and that exists within my Wordpress-based site. Here again, is a link to the URL: https://danscartoons.com and since it is now a "https" site (with an SSL certificate etc.), I want to add it as a new property in Google Webmaster Tools.....so my next step is actually starting that step. However as you know, Google assigns a line of code you need to paste into your site's database. I was told my "public_html" folder will be where this line of code will go, so now am trying to figure if I:

#1. First add that line of code in a notepad file and add it to the "public_html" folder?

      OR

#2. Add that notepad file INTO a named folder and add that folder to the "public_html"
      folder?

How would you do this? I am of course refering to doing this via my Cpanel access. Thanks!

I use attracta.com to generate a sitemap. I have to refresh it once in a while, but I know that it's time to do that when traffic suddenly drops.
