What are categorized as low, medium, & high competitive keywords?

What are categorized as low, medium, & high competitive keywords? I mean, what is the number of competitors in SERP would you categorize a keyword to be in low or medium or high competition?

    The number of listings has NOTHING to do with how competitive a phrase is. Anyone that tells you otherwise has no idea how to judge competition.

    Does not matter what the keyword is or how many listings are in the index. The top 3 listings are your competitors. That's it.

    Nowadays I'd add Google in as one of the main competitors.

    Often there are just adverts "above the fold" and by no means everyone simply scrolls past the ads to get to the organic results.

    After that, do your due diligence.

    If there are mainly authority sites on page 1 then you're going to have more of a battle than if there are Web 2.0 sites and sub-pages of various sites.

    There are various tools out there that will give you clues but the best way is to test to find out your own answers.
