How to SEO to a Bartering platform

Hello everyone!

I was wondering how I would be able to drive more traffic to our site using SEO methods. I am marketing for a service exchange site where users can barter or purchase their or other users services. I've been reading that content is king, so having a blog and writing articles are a must, but would this be essential for the type of website that we have?

I just want to make sure that I am on the right track when it comes to my current approach and/or if I am missing anything.

I've recently started with signing up to forums and participating in discussions, whether they be questions, suggestions, or previous experiences, but is there anything else that I should be tackling? Should keywords within our content be prioritized over other avenues (if we have to go the article/blog route)?

Thanks for the help in advance!
Excited to be part of this forum.

Content is only king to a certain extent. It depends what keywords you are targeting and how competitive the keyword is, along with your on-page SEO for the page you are trying to rank.

Once you have your on-page ready, you will need to build enough links to beat your competition.

I would be glad to help you out with analyzing competition, message me if you are interested.

No, you do not need any articles to rank pages. That's just something IMers dreamed up when they started spamming ezinearticles.com for free backlinks. Google slapped that link spam idea a few years ago.

Odds are a barter site is targeting local traffic so do local SEO, optimize your pages for city names, addresses, etc... plus the regular product keywords just like Craigslist does with their site.
