Hello Everyone,

I wanted to share a scenario and get some advice from everyone on how I can go about the best way..

I have a fan-game site that posts news and guides and gets around 3-4k visitors per day (70% Organic 30% Social Share)
The site posts about 10-14 articles a week and its been active for the past two years.

Now I would like to add a Forum to the site and also a wiki type database.

My question is, would it be a bad idea if i were do have the forum and the wiki on two separate domains and link the three sites throughout articles, forum, shares, etc.? So it would be News, Forum and Wiki.

or would it be better if I have them on subdomain and make all three categories under the same domain.

Second Question:
Scenario: Its a pokemon fan-site which contains news and guides. Gets about 3-4k hit per day. 3-4k social media followers (FB,Twitter,Tumblr,Youtube)

It also makes gameplay video guides for youtube. Getting from 10k views per month

What would be my best monetizing option?

Its a fan site and has a good community and fanbase.. I dont want to annoy users with too much ads.

I would appreciate it if someone can advise on point me to the right direction and any other advice i can do to better the site.

Thanks in advance.

    Hi adib,

I would put the forum and wiki on the same domain so you can capture more of the authority and traffic from your existing site.

Are there any programs or services that Pokemon fans use or purchases they tend to make fairly regularly? Your best bet would be to become an affiliate for those products or services, write in-depth reviews on them on your site and include a link so you get a percentage of the sales.

    Best,
    Matt

Still searching for affiliates to start monetizing the site. But I dont think there is any similar type products that i can offer to my audience, except for Amazon products of the franchise. But i feel that looks a bit cheap.

    You're asking the wrong people.

Run polls on your own site asking your traffic questions like:
    • How much money have they spent on Pokeman?
    • What Pokeman related products have they bought?
    • What Pokeman related products are they planning on buying?
    • How old are they?
    • How long have they been involved in Pokeman (noob products vs experienced products)?
    • Why are they on your website, what are they looking for?
    • How did they find your website?
    • etc...

With 3K traffic per day you should see instant feedback on which direction to take your site.

I can guarantee this forum or any other forum that doesn't know your site, can't give you exact answers that are worthwhile. You need to be testing/polling your traffic constantly, day after day to get the answers to your questions.

    Communicate with your traffic.

If you have 4-5 k visitors then I would suggest keeping it control and building a customized form to keep the look and feel of your own site and to control content and adds in all ways.

Just because it is a site about Pokemon doesn't mean you have to monetize it with Pokemon products.

You could monetize it as an affiliate for Google Play and the Apple App Store.

There are tons of similar card games out there now. There are probably affiliate programs related to them.

There are CPA offers like those ones that do a survey for a chance to win an Xbox, etc.

Instead of thinking about just Pokemon, think about the kind of common interests that a lot of Pokemon fans have.

I hate Pokemon, so I have no idea what those are, but you should have a pretty good idea.
