On Page SEO: should I use H2 and text content on ecommerce site even if it looks messy?

Hi everyone,
I'm new to SEO and I'm trying to build an online store using woocommerce.
I need help with the following ideas:
1. On my home page, I've put the keywords in the title and meta description. I know I should put them in the content as well, but it messes up the design. If I put a H2 and some text containing the keywords it looks odd. It seems more user friendly having the top selling products and the product categories on the front page.
2. Also, I'm using product categories to target other keywords for which I could rank. The keywords will be on the category's: title, meta description, header, but not content. I mean it is better if I display the category's products instead of filling up top half of the screen with text content.
Any advice?
