Ranking difference between Google.com and Google.co.jp ?

Hey guys,

I've got a SEO question.

Our company has a very good ranking on ''google .CO.JP'' (5+)but a very bad ranking on ''google .COM'' (133+) and I would like to know why.

You must know that we're a Japanese company based in Osaka and the keywords we are targeting are ''indie games''. However a lot of our clients are from North America that's why we are looking to have a better google ranking on Google.com

Because we already have a good ranking on Google.co.jp, I guess that we already have a quality content, good description, landing pages and so on.

What do you think?

    You might set up an alternate website based in the US, targeting the US.

    The answer is actually in your question. Why does google choose to do .co.jp, as well as numerous other country specific ones?

    So according to you, it's impossible to have a good google .COM ranking with a website hosted in Japan ?
    (We have and english and a japanese versions, we're trying to boost the english version).
    We are not based in US so it will be really hard to have our website hosted there...
