Since scrapped content becomes duplicate content so what can you do to rank better in Google?

If I scrape content from an article directory and I am crediting the author, is it OK, or does it have any legal issues?

    1. Write your own unique content.

    2. If you credit the author for an original piece of content, you are not scraping it, you are republishing it (this is the whole idea behind article directories) and perfectly fine to do.

Note, It is very unlikely you will rank (naturally) for any pages on your site where the content has been published elsewhere, it is NOT a penalty, but Google will only want to show one version of that content for a given search.

Use directory articles only as 'filler' content, i.e. have plenty of original content as well.

Tim3 is right again! Scraped content is never going to rank. You can either do things the right way or you can do them the lazy way. The lazy way never works out real well for anything in life.

There are ways to use other people's content in a way that not only makes it unique to your website, but may also earn you a link or at least social mentions. Do a commentary on the other article, summarizing its points but also offering your own unique insights or differing opinions. Be sure to link to the original article and then get in contact with the original article's author to let him know how much you appreciated his piece and how you wrote a follow-up on it. Chances are, that other person will let all of their followers know about your post (people have very big egos) and may even link to your post in a future article.

Similarly, you could also write a "Best Of" piece where you link to many different articles and write a brief paragraph summarizing what is in those other articles. This will earn you even more social mentions and link opportunities!

      Not true.

When two pages on separate domains have the same text/content it all comes down to which domain/page has better SEO, example which domain/page has the best backlink profile.

I've scraped an entire book found on Google Books and out ranked them with their own content on Google SERPs. It wasn't difficult, only took a few followed backlinks and a silo structure.

Well, I'm not talking about few hundreds articles but few millions articles!

So the planning should be good, it requires a little investment of money and time as well.

There was a time where you could just take an extract of content, credit the author and then still rank, but google quickly put a stop to this a while back. I don't know why they started it really...

As long as it's BELOW Tier3, it's OK! For Tier1 backlinks you should ALWAYS use UNIQUE content!
