Good or unique content alone will NOT get you a lot of backlinks.

Unless you get traffic to your site who is going to baclink to you?

My advice is to work at it and get backlinks yourself and don't wait for the search engines to bring it to you or you could be waiting a very long time.

that's not the case in my opinion.

content and getting backlinks are often two separate topics and initiatives.

no doubt with good content u may get backlinks but it's a task u need to perform instead of waiting. that's kind of reactive which won't get u the result u wish.

It can't be a rule, but if you have quality content there is big possibility that you have organic traffic. But you have to do a lot of things to have organic visitors, because organic traffic means visitor from search engines and peoples who search in search engines are looking to top results. If you aren't there your don't have visitors

My take on this is that useful content will always fare well on its own - I mean genuinely valuable/informative/imaginative/well-written in terms of language and style. However, the time it could take is anything but defined. There should be something to hook up to.

You are describing the idea of "Link Bait".

The only problem is that there is no guarantee on this approach. If you site is new and you have zero traffic anyway, the only real way to get people to show up, appreciate, and link to it is with social application sites like Digg & Stumbleupon.

Only problem is that you can do all that work and nobody appreciates it. If you're doing this as a business there is no way you can put something so important as linkbuilding into the hands of the unwashed masses. That's crazy.

      It's a recipe for disaster...and it's why I don't invest time in linkbait.
