Hey guys,

so for the past two weeks I've been going around creating a few web 2.0 websites from different sources with the aim of publishing articles and linking back to my money website.

Just wanted to know if anybody still uses this technique and it still works.

First of all it's spam, so you best be pointing those links at a disposable site and not a long term site.

Second, the whole web 2.0 link profile still requires followed authority supporting links so you're not going to just build 2.0 links and start ranking pages.

Web 2.0 sites are not like those low quality websites so its not just building links but establishing your site as a good source to the target users.

Web 2.0 on their own is useless for ranking
except when supported with second tier, third tier
    links.

You are right to point out that links would work if they follow Google guidelines for webmasters. Links should be carefully distributed manually.

Every placed link must have a perfect match between the content discussed at the current web page and the links target landing page. Link should expand on the current content, match it organically, and provide to the web surfer relevant and useful information.

In this case, your link will generate more targeted traffic and carry high potential for sale of your services or products! All links that generate positive traffic are picked up by Google rankings and thus increasing the ranking of your website. Informative links tend to work better.

Also, these links will help to dilute your overall pool of links and make your whole package more compliant with Google Penguin filters: all links must follow certain proportions: 50 % are references to website addresses or domain names, 20% are direct keys, 30% are indirect keys. Also, 15-30% of all links should be tagged nofollow.
